The OPPO Reno12 Pro is the top model of OPPO's 2024 Reno12 family and the one that carries the portrait-camera idea furthest: a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto portrait lens and a 50MP autofocus selfie camera, all wrapped in a 6.7-inch screen that curves on all four sides. OPPO introduced it to European markets with a global press release dated 18 June 2024 and followed with an India launch on 12 July 2024. This page is built from the published specifications and the manufacturer's own material, so claims are labelled as claims and no hands-on impressions are invented.
Where the Pro sits in the Reno12 line
The generation has three members: the Reno12 Pro, the Reno12 and the more affordable Reno12 F. The Pro and the standard model share the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy chip, the 5,000 mAh battery and 80W charging. What separates them is the camera set and the glass: the Pro adds the telephoto portrait lens and the 50MP selfie camera, uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 instead of Gorilla Glass 7i and has a display curved on four edges rather than two. The generation that followed brought the Reno13 Pro and, later, the Reno14, so the Reno12 Pro now counts as an older model. OPPO did not list a US price on the pages used here, so none is quoted.
Design and the four-curve screen
OPPO describes the display as an "Infinite View Screen" that mixes the look of a curved panel with the grip of a flat one. In practice that means a quad micro-curve design, where the edges bend gently on all four sides. The India announcement quotes a 43 degree curve. The aim is comfort in the hand and fewer accidental touches at the edges, which OPPO says it also tackles with software: the Splash Touch feature is intended to keep the screen working when fingers or the glass are wet.
The screen is a 6.7-inch flexible AMOLED with a resolution of 2412 x 1080, a density of about 394 pixels per inch and a screen-to-body ratio of 93.5%. The refresh rate can be set to 60, 90 or 120 Hz, touch sampling reaches 240 Hz, and brightness is listed as 600 nits as a configurable maximum and 1,200 nits in direct sunlight. The panel supports 1.07 billion colours and HDR10+. The cover is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which OPPO calls the toughest glass yet on a Reno phone.
The body is a two-tone design in Sunset Gold and Space Brown, with a matte upper half, a glossy lower half and a metallic ribbon between them. The third colour, Nebula Silver, takes on a lilac tint in OPPO's renders and uses a rippled glass texture that appears to move as the angle changes. The phone measures 161.5 x 74.8 mm, is about 7.40 mm thick (7.45 mm in Nebula Silver) and weighs about 180 g (181 g in Nebula Silver). OPPO quotes an IP65 rating for dust and splashes, which is a lower grade than the IP68 and IP69 ratings found on some rivals.
Camera: the reason to buy a Pro
The rear setup has a 50MP main camera (f/1.8, optical stabilisation, a Sony LYT-600 sensor per OPPO's press release), a 50MP telephoto portrait camera (f/2.0, 50 mm equivalent, offering 1x and 2x optical zoom) and an 8MP ultrawide camera (f/2.2). A telephoto portrait lens is unusual at this tier, and it is what lets the phone shoot flattering head-and-shoulders portraits with natural background blur instead of relying only on software cut-outs. The standard Reno12 does not have it.
The front camera is also upgraded: a 50MP unit with autofocus and a 90 degree field of view. OPPO says it supports real-time AI Portrait Retouching, where face shape, hairline and cheekbones can be adjusted while framing a shot. Both the front and rear cameras can record 4K video at 30 fps, and the phone offers dual-view video that records both sides at once. For stills, OPPO lists an upgraded flash snapshot mode aimed at more realistic light and skin tones.
On the software side the launch emphasised generative tools. AI Eraser 2.0 removes people or objects, AI Clear Face restores detail in distant faces in group photos, AI Best Face fixes blinked eyes using several frames, and AI Studio creates stylised avatars from one picture. OPPO notes that some of these features may vary by region, need an account or need an internet connection, and that a few were not available at launch. Treat them as an extra rather than the main reason to buy.
Performance, memory and software
The Dimensity 7300-Energy is a 4nm octa-core chip with four Cortex-A78 and four Cortex-A55 cores, with Arm Mali-G615 graphics. OPPO co-developed it with MediaTek and stresses efficiency over peak speed. It is a mid-range platform, and the memory options reflect that: the specification page lists 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM with 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. OPPO's RAM Expansion can borrow up to 12GB of storage as temporary memory, and the ColorOS 14.1 Trinity Engine aims to keep background apps alive for longer. These are manufacturer descriptions, and no benchmark numbers are quoted here.
The phone runs ColorOS 14.1, supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 with LDAC and aptX-HD, NFC and USB Type-C, and accepts two nano-SIM cards. Other features named by OPPO include AI LinkBoost, an arrangement of nine antennas intended to hold a signal in lifts and basements, and BeaconLink, which allows voice calls over boosted Bluetooth over roughly 200 metres in open areas without mobile signal.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000 mAh (4,880 mAh rated). Charging uses 80W SUPERVOOC, and OPPO states about 46 minutes for a full charge and 1% to 32% in ten minutes. Its lab figures for battery life speak of up to 2.07 days of typical use and 25 days of standby, and OPPO claims more than 80% capacity after four years of simulated daily charging. All of this comes from the maker's own testing, so real endurance will depend on screen brightness, signal strength and how often the 120 Hz mode is active.
Who should consider it
The Reno12 Pro fits people who take many portraits and selfies, and who want a flat-feeling curved screen and fast charging without paying flagship prices. It is less convincing for gamers or anyone who wants a very powerful chip, because the processor is aimed at efficiency. The Reno12 Pro vs Galaxy A56 page shows how it lines up against a popular rival, and the rankings give a wider view.
Compromises
- The ultrawide camera is only 8MP, so wide shots are less detailed than the main and telephoto images.
- IP65 protects against splashes and dust but is not a submersion rating.
- The chip is mid-range and the RAM is LPDDR4X, so it trails flagships in speed.
- Several AI features depend on region, account and connection.
- It is an earlier-generation phone, and the Reno13 Pro offers newer hardware.
In short, the Reno12 Pro is a portrait-first mid-range phone whose telephoto lens, 50MP selfie camera and 80W charging make it more capable than the standard Reno12, while its modest chip and IP65 rating keep expectations realistic.
