The Galaxy S24+ is the middle model of Samsung's 2024 Galaxy S family. It takes the QHD+ display, the larger 4,900 mAh battery and the 45W charging that the compact Galaxy S24 lacks, but it leaves out the S Pen, the titanium frame and the 200MP periscope camera system reserved for the Ultra. This page is a review based on the published specifications and manufacturer information. It covers where the phone sits in the lineup, the design and screen, performance and software, the cameras, battery and charging, the audience it suits and its trade-offs.
Where it sits in the lineup
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra at Galaxy Unpacked in San Jose on 17 January 2024, with general sales beginning on 31 January 2024. In the United States the S24+ started at $999.99 with 256GB of storage and a 512GB model above it. That placed it $200 above the Galaxy S24 and $300 below the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Its successor is the Galaxy S25+, and the page Galaxy S24+ vs Galaxy S25+ compares the two. Samsung later added the more affordable Galaxy S24 FE to the family in autumn 2024, so the S24+ sits above that model in price and in materials as well.
Design and display
The S24+ keeps the flat sides and flat display that Samsung introduced across the family in 2024, in place of the more rounded profile of earlier years. It uses an aluminium frame (Samsung calls it Armor Aluminum) and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back, and it is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, which Samsung specifies as up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. The phone measures about 158.5 x 75.9 x 7.7 mm and weighs around 196 g. Those figures make it noticeably lighter and thinner than the Ultra, while still being a large phone.
The screen is a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel. Samsung quotes the size as 6.5 inches when measured with the rounded corners. Unlike the standard S24, which has an FHD+ panel, the S24+ uses QHD+ resolution (3120 x 1440) with an adaptive refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, and Samsung quotes a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. The sharper panel is the clearest hardware reason to step up from the base model, although the visible difference at a normal viewing distance is modest, and QHD+ is not always active in the default settings, since the phone can run at FHD+ to save power. The standard colours are Onyx Black, Marble Gray, Cobalt Violet and Amber Yellow; Jade Green, Sapphire Blue and Sandstone Orange are exclusive to Samsung's online store.
Performance and software
This is the part of the S24+ that depends on where it is sold. Samsung states that the Galaxy S24 series uses a mix of chips by region: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy in the United States and in some other markets, and the company's own Exynos 2400 in many others. In the US the specification sheet lists the Snapdragon chip. Buyers outside the US should check the model number sold in their country, because the processor affects sustained performance, power use and some camera processing. The phone has 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage, with no card slot.
The S24+ ships with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, and Samsung promises seven generations of operating-system upgrades and seven years of security updates. That commitment applies to the whole family and is a major selling point: the phone will remain supported long after most competing phones have stopped receiving updates. The Galaxy AI suite is the headline software feature of the generation. It includes Circle to Search with Google, Live Translate for phone calls, Interpreter for face-to-face conversations, Note Assist, Chat Assist and generative photo editing. Samsung said that Galaxy AI features would be free until the end of 2025, so buyers should check the current terms. As with any manufacturer feature list, the quality of these tools varies by language and use case, and some depend on an internet connection.
Camera system
The rear camera has three sensors: a 50MP main camera (f/1.8, optical stabilisation), a 12MP ultrawide camera (f/2.2, 120-degree field of view) and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom (f/2.4). The front camera is 12MP. This is the same camera set as the smaller Galaxy S24, which means that the extra cost of the S24+ does not buy a better camera. What it buys is a larger and sharper screen and more battery. The Ultra's 200MP sensor and 5x periscope are not available here, and the maximum optical range is 3x, with digital cropping beyond that. Samsung markets improved processing through its ProVisual Engine and stronger low-light output, which are manufacturer claims rather than measured results.
For most users the cameras are capable for everyday photography, social media and travel. People who regularly photograph distant subjects, such as events or wildlife, will find the 3x limit restrictive compared with the Ultra. Video recording goes up to 8K in the specification.
Battery and charging
The S24+ has a 4,900 mAh battery, with a rated minimum of 4,755 mAh. It supports 45W wired charging, which Samsung says brings the phone to about 65 percent in around 30 minutes with its 45W adapter. The adapter is sold separately in most markets. Wireless charging uses Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, and Wireless PowerShare allows the phone to top up earbuds or a watch from its back. The battery is 900 mAh larger than the one in the Galaxy S24, and the charging limit is 20W higher, so these are two differences that matter in daily use. Compared with the fastest Chinese flagships, 45W is moderate, but it is a sensible figure that avoids aggressive battery wear.
Who it is for
The S24+ suits people who want a large, bright screen, strong battery life and a long software promise without paying for the Ultra's stylus or periscope camera. It is a good fit for those who use their phone for video, games and reading, and who prefer a phone that is lighter than the Ultra. It also works well for people who want to keep the device for many years, thanks to the seven-year update commitment. It is less convincing for photographers, who will prefer the Ultra, and for buyers whose main concern is price, who may do better with the Galaxy S24 FE or a discounted standard S24.
Compromises
The principal trade-off is value: with the same camera set as the cheaper S24, the S24+ is justified mainly by the display and battery. The chip variation between regions is a second issue, since two buyers in different countries may receive different processors under the same name. There is no stylus and no periscope zoom, and no charger comes in the box. Storage starts at 256GB in the United States, which is generous, but it cannot be expanded. Finally, as a model from 2024 it is overtaken in speed and camera processing by later phones such as the Galaxy S26+. The practical conclusion is that the S24+ remains a well-rounded large phone whose strongest arguments are its screen, its battery and the update promise, and whose weaker side is the lack of any camera advantage over its cheaper sibling.
