The Galaxy S24 FE is Samsung's fan-edition phone of the Galaxy S24 generation: a lower-priced model that borrows the look, the Galaxy AI features and the long update promise of the flagship S24 family while using a different chip, a slightly simpler camera set and a less premium build. This page is a review based on the published specifications and manufacturer information. It explains where the phone sits in the lineup, how it is built, what the display and chip offer, how the cameras and battery compare, who should buy it and what it gives up.
Where it sits in the lineup
Samsung announced the Galaxy S24 FE on 26 September 2024, and sales began in many markets on 4 October 2024. In the United States it started at $649.99, and in the United Kingdom the recommended prices were £649 for 128GB and £699 for 256GB. It therefore sits well below the $799.99 Galaxy S24 at launch, and far below the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Galaxy S24+. Samsung positions the FE line as a way to bring the premium Galaxy experience, including Galaxy AI, to buyers who would otherwise choose a mid-range A-series phone. The following year Samsung released the Galaxy S25 FE, and the page Galaxy S24 FE vs Galaxy S25 FE shows the generational change. Within the same price band, the Galaxy A36 is a cheaper alternative with a very different chip and camera.
Design and display
The phone has an aluminium frame, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back, and an IP68 rating, which Samsung describes as protection in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for 30 minutes. It measures 162.0 x 77.3 x 8.0 mm and weighs 213 g, which makes it a little heavier and thicker than the Galaxy S24+, and noticeably heavier than the standard S24. The rear carries three separate camera rings in the style of the 2024 S family, and the frame is flat-sided.
The display is a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with FHD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of 60Hz to 120Hz. Samsung quotes a peak brightness of 1,900 nits and bezels as thin as 1.99 mm, and it says the size is 6.5 inches when measured with rounded corners. These are manufacturer figures. An FHD+ screen is sufficiently sharp at this size, and the adaptive range starts at 60Hz rather than 1Hz, which means that the phone cannot lower its refresh rate as far as the LTPO screens in the more expensive S24+ and Ultra when showing static content. The colours are Blue, Graphite, Gray, Mint and Yellow, although the availability of each one varies by country, and some are retailer exclusives.
Performance and software
The chip is the Exynos 2400e, a 4nm processor that Samsung describes as part of the Exynos 2400 series. It is a variant of the processor used in the standard Galaxy S24 and S24+ in many regions, with different clock settings. The phone has 8GB of RAM and is sold with 128GB or 256GB of storage; some markets also list a 512GB version. There is no memory card slot. Samsung does not publish benchmark numbers for this phone and this page does not add any. What the specification suggests is that the FE offers flagship-class performance for ordinary and demanding tasks, with some thermal limits in long gaming sessions, as is common for chips of this type.
The FE launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1 and carries the full seven-generation operating-system and seven-year security-update promise. That is unusual at this price and is probably the strongest reason to buy it: a phone bought in 2024 is supported into 2031. The Galaxy AI features include Circle to Search with Google, Live Translate, Interpreter, Note Assist and generative photo editing. As with other models, Samsung can change how these features are priced after the introductory period, so buyers should check the current terms. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, and Samsung lists its Knox Vault security hardware.
Camera system
The rear camera has a 50MP main sensor (f/1.8, optical stabilisation), a 12MP ultrawide camera (f/2.2, 123-degree field of view) and an 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom (f/2.4, optical stabilisation). The front camera is 10MP, which is two megapixels fewer than the front camera of the S24 and S24+. Compared with the standard Galaxy S24, the main sensor is the same size class, but the telephoto is lower resolution, and the ultrawide has a wider field. In ordinary daylight the differences between this phone and the S24 should be small, while low-light performance and zoom detail are the areas where the pricier models are likely to be better. These expectations come from the specification, not from measurements.
The camera software includes Galaxy AI tools, such as generative editing, and the usual Samsung modes for portraits, night photography and video. Video recording goes up to 4K in the published information.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 4,700 mAh, with a rated minimum of 4,565 mAh. Wired charging is 25W through USB-C, and Samsung says that about 50 percent can be reached in roughly 30 minutes with a 25W adapter, which is sold separately. The phone also supports fast wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare. A 4,700 mAh battery is larger than that in the standard S24 (4,000 mAh) but smaller than the 4,900 mAh in the S24+. Charging speed is modest compared with the 45W of the S24+ and Ultra, and far behind the rapid charging of many Chinese phones at this price. The practical result should be a comfortable full day for typical use, but not a standout figure.
Who it is for
The S24 FE is aimed at people who want a large, bright display, a recognisable Samsung flagship design, and a very long support period at a price lower than the main S24 models. It suits users who care more about longevity and software than about the best possible zoom camera or the fastest charging. It is also a sensible option for people who plan to keep a phone for six or seven years and want it to receive regular updates throughout. Buyers who compare it with the Galaxy S24 should note that the S24 is smaller and lighter, has a higher-resolution front camera and uses a different chip, while the FE has the larger battery and larger screen.
Compromises
The most visible trade-offs are the 25W charging speed, the lower-resolution telephoto and selfie cameras, and the weight of 213 g. The display lacks the 1Hz floor and the QHD+ resolution of higher models. The Exynos chip is a step down from the top Snapdragon in the Ultra, and the FE is available only with 8GB of RAM. There is no stylus, no memory card slot and no charger in the box. In many markets the phone's price has fallen since launch, which improves its value, but it also means that buyers should compare it with newer models such as the Galaxy S25 FE before deciding. Overall, the Galaxy S24 FE is a well-supported, capable and reasonably priced big-screen phone whose main strengths are its update promise and its display, and whose limits are charging speed and camera ambition.
