The Galaxy Z Flip7 is Samsung's 2025 flip-style foldable, and the company describes it as a compact AI phone built around a new edge-to-edge cover display called the FlexWindow. It was announced at Galaxy Unpacked in July 2025 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7, and it is the slimmest Galaxy Z Flip so far. This page summarises the launch announcement, Samsung's specification table and the way the company explained its design choices, and it flags where the details are Samsung's own claims.

Launch and availability

Pre-orders opened on 9 July 2025 and general sales began on 25 July 2025. The main model comes in Blue Shadow, Jetblack and Coralred, with Mint sold as an online-exclusive colour. Storage options are 256GB or 512GB, both with 12GB of memory, although the range offered depends on the market. Samsung announced a cheaper sibling at the same event, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, and we describe how they differ further down. Samsung's launch offer also gave buyers expanded access to Google AI Pro and 2TB of cloud storage for six months, and the company introduced a programme called New Galaxy Club for people who like to upgrade. No global list price appears in the press material, so the price field here is empty. If you would like to compare it with the larger book-style foldable from the same event, see the Galaxy Z Fold7 page or the Galaxy Z Flip7 vs Galaxy Z Fold7 table.

A larger cover screen, a smaller body

The most visible change is the front. The FlexWindow is a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 1048 x 948 resolution, the largest cover display ever on a Galaxy Z Flip, and it now runs edge to edge so more content fits: messages, schedules, widgets and selfie previews. Refresh rate is 60 to 120Hz. Samsung says it is the brightest FlexWindow so far, and it adds Vision Booster, the same outdoor-visibility technology found on its main phones, so the screen remains usable in the sun. Inside, the main display is a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 2520 x 1080 resolution in a 21:9 shape and an adaptive 1 to 120Hz refresh rate. Both screens reach up to 2,600 nits of peak brightness.

Despite the larger screens, the phone is smaller in the hand. Folded it measures 75.2 x 85.5 x 13.7 mm, and Samsung calls 13.7 mm the slimmest folded thickness of any Galaxy Z Flip. Unfolded it is 75.2 x 166.7 mm and 6.5 mm thick. Weight is 188 grams. Both the cover and the back are covered by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the frame is made of Armor Aluminum, and the Armor FlexHinge is thinner than in the previous generation with a restructured design and stronger materials to fold more smoothly and last longer. Like the Fold7, it is rated IP48, which covers immersion in fresh water up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes in lab conditions but does not fully seal against dust.

Performance and battery

The Flip7 uses the Exynos 2500, a 3nm processor customised for Galaxy, with 12GB of RAM. Samsung says its CPU, GPU and NPU are more powerful than those of the Galaxy Z Flip6, though the press release gives no percentage figures. The battery is a 4,300 mAh (typical) dual-cell unit with a rated capacity of 4,174 mAh. It is the largest battery ever in a Galaxy Z Flip and, according to Samsung's internal tests, supports up to 31 hours of video playback. Wired charging reaches about 50 percent in around 30 minutes with a separately sold 25W adapter, and Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare are supported. Connectivity covers 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, with a single nano-SIM plus eSIM. For the first time on a Flip, Samsung DeX is available, so the phone can connect to a monitor and behave like a small desktop workstation.

Cameras

The rear system is a 50MP wide-angle camera (f/1.8, optical stabilisation) and a 12MP ultrawide camera with a 123-degree field of view. The front camera is a 10MP unit. Samsung says its ProVisual Engine optimises each scene, Enhanced Nightography improves low-light shots by removing noise and blurred frames, and 10-bit HDR gives video richer colour. The phone's best-known trick is that the two rear cameras double as selfie cameras when the phone is closed: because the rear camera faces you when folded, you can preview through the FlexWindow with Dual Preview, apply Real-Time Filters, use a new Zoom Slider to change framing with a swipe and take group or full-outfit shots without unfolding the screen. Portrait Studio in Photo Assist can restyle pet photos in cartoon or fisheye looks.

FlexWindow software and Galaxy AI

The phone launched with One UI 8 on Android 16, and Samsung built much of it around the cover screen. Gemini Live can run directly on the FlexWindow so you can ask for information with your voice and complete tasks hands-free. Samsung's example is planning a trip: Gemini can pull flight details from Samsung Wallet, set a reminder for when to leave for the airport, find well-rated restaurants at the destination and save the results in Samsung Notes. With camera sharing, you can point the camera at your outfit and ask whether it suits the weather. Now Bar shows live activity such as ride ETAs, podcast progress or sports scores, and it now integrates with more third-party apps. Now Brief provides personalised updates about traffic, reminders, calendar events and fitness summaries, including data from Samsung Health and a Galaxy Watch. The FlexWindow clock adapts to your wallpaper, wrapping around faces or objects in the image so the time stays readable. Samsung also lists Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection and post-quantum cryptography for Secure Wi-Fi among the security additions in One UI 8.

Design story

In a newsroom interview, Samsung's head of UX, Huichul Yang, explained that the full-front FlexWindow was designed so Gemini can be used quickly on the cover screen, and he pointed out that the main camera faces you when the phone is folded, so you can start Gemini Live and ask about your outfit or your schedule without opening it. Design head Hubert Lee said that his team chose metallic finishes to give the colours depth and that Blue Shadow shows shine and sophistication from every angle. These are the makers' own explanations, not independent assessments.

The Flip7 FE

Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, a more affordable sibling. Its main display is 6.7 inches (2640 x 1080, 22:9, 120Hz), its cover display is 3.4 inches (720 x 748), it uses the Exynos 2400 with 8GB of memory and 128GB or 256GB of storage, carries a 50MP main camera with a 12MP ultrawide, has a 4,000 mAh battery, supports Wi-Fi 6E and comes in black and white. Folded it is 14.9 mm thick and weighs 187 grams. If you want the larger cover screen and the newer chip, the standard Flip7 is the one to look at, and for a non-foldable flagship consider the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
