The Galaxy Z Fold7 is Samsung's seventh-generation book-style foldable and, by the company's own description, the thinnest and lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date. It was announced at Galaxy Unpacked in July 2025 with a simple pitch: keep the everyday feel of a normal smartphone when folded, and open up to a large, tablet-like screen when you need to edit, multitask or watch video. This page collects what Samsung published about the phone, the specifications from its launch table and the design thinking Samsung's own team described afterwards.

Launch and availability

Samsung revealed the Galaxy Z Fold7 together with the Galaxy Z Flip7 and the Galaxy Watch8 series. Pre-orders started on 9 July 2025, and general availability began on 25 July 2025, first in around 49 markets and later in over 110 markets worldwide according to Samsung's launch announcement. The phone comes in Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow and Jetblack, with a Mint colour offered as an online exclusive. Memory and storage are 12GB with 256GB or 512GB, or 16GB with 1TB, though the exact options vary by market. Samsung did not give a single global price in the press material, so we have left the price field empty. For the flip-style sibling announced at the same event, see the Galaxy Z Flip7 page.

Thin and light, on purpose

The headline is the body. Folded, the Fold7 measures 72.8 x 158.4 x 8.9 mm, and unfolded it is 143.2 x 158.4 x 4.2 mm thick at its slimmest, excluding the frame around the main screen. It weighs 215 grams. Samsung's head of design, Hubert Lee, said in a newsroom interview that his team treated this generation as a redesign from the ground up rather than a refinement, and that reducing weight was the central goal because a foldable has to be portable to be part of daily life. He described how making the phone lighter led to a thinner body and then a larger display. The result is a frame made of what Samsung calls Advanced Armor Aluminum, said to be 10 percent stronger and harder, and a restructured hinge called the Armor FlexHinge that uses a water-droplet shape and a multi-rail structure to reduce the visible crease and spread stress more evenly.

The cover screen uses Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front, a glass-ceramic with crystals embedded in the glass, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back. The inner display was rebuilt to be thinner and lighter yet stronger: Samsung added a titanium plate layer and made the ultra-thin glass 50 percent thicker. The phone is rated IP48, which means it resists submersion in water up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes under lab conditions but is not fully dust-sealed, a limitation of foldable hinges that is worth remembering if you visit beaches or dusty workplaces.

Two screens

The cover display is a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with an FHD+ resolution of 2520 x 1080 and a new 21:9 aspect ratio, wider than earlier cover screens so that typing and browsing feel normal when the phone is closed. Unfolded, the main display is an 8.0-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel (2184 x 1968, 368 ppi), 11 percent larger than on the previous generation. Both screens adapt their refresh rate between 1 and 120Hz, and Samsung quotes peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits along with its Vision Booster for visibility in sunlight. Because the main display is almost square, it suits split-screen work and side-by-side comparison better than a tall phone screen does, which is the principle behind many of the software features below.

Performance and battery

The processor is the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Samsung states improvements of 41 percent in NPU, 38 percent in CPU and 26 percent in GPU performance over the previous Fold generation, and links those gains to running more AI tasks, such as real-time translation and Generative Edit, on the device. The battery is a 4,400 mAh (typical) dual-cell unit with a rated capacity of 4,272 mAh. Wired charging reaches about 50 percent in around 30 minutes with a 25W adapter, which Samsung sells separately, and the phone supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare for topping up accessories. Connectivity includes 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, plus two nano-SIM slots and eSIM, and Samsung Knox Vault protects sensitive data.

Cameras

This is the first Galaxy Z model with a 200MP wide-angle camera, which Samsung says captures four times more detail and produces images 44 percent brighter. The rest of the rear set is a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and optical stabilisation. On the front there are two 10MP cameras: one in the cover screen and one inside the main display, the latter with a 100-degree field of view for group selfies after you unfold the phone. Samsung's newer ProVisual Engine processes images faster, Night Video separates moving subjects from static backgrounds to reduce noise and 10-bit HDR adds colour depth to video. The 3x telephoto is the same focal length as on earlier Fold phones, so anyone who wants a 5x periscope lens will still find that on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is one reason to read the Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Galaxy Z Fold7 comparison before choosing.

One UI 8 and Galaxy AI on a big screen

The Fold7 launched with One UI 8 on Android 16 and leans heavily on AI features designed for the large display. Gemini Live is now multimodal, so you can share what the camera sees or what is on screen and ask questions about it. Circle to Search brings results as a floating view over a game or app. AI Results View shows the outcome of an AI action in a separate split or floating window so your original content stays visible, and you can drag and drop generated text and images from one window to another. In Gallery, Photo Assist can move, erase or enlarge objects and fill in backgrounds, Suggest Erases proactively spots passers-by, and Side-by-Side Editing with Show Original compares before and after on the large screen. Audio Eraser now detects and removes noise such as wind or traffic from recordings. Drawing Assist and Writing Assist are also available, and Samsung notes that AI-generated images carry a visible watermark. Many of these features need a network connection and a Samsung Account, and availability varies by region and language.

Security and extras

Samsung highlights Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection, which creates encrypted app-specific storage inside the device's secure area so each app can read only its own sensitive data, expanded Knox Matrix cross-device threat detection and post-quantum cryptography for Secure Wi-Fi. New buyers received six months of Google AI Pro with 2TB of cloud storage in the launch offer, and Samsung Care+ covers accidental damage. Whether the Fold7 is worth its premium depends on how often you would use the large screen; if not, the standard Galaxy S25 is a simpler alternative, and our reviews will add real-world impressions as we publish them.
