The REDMAGIC 10 Air is a gaming phone that tries not to look like one. Made by the gaming-phone brand under ZTE, it keeps the things that matter to mobile gamers, including a flagship Qualcomm chip, shoulder triggers and serious cooling, but squeezes them into a 7.85 mm body that weighs 205 g. This page is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information, and it flags manufacturer claims as claims rather than results.

Where it sits in the REDMAGIC range

REDMAGIC normally sells two kinds of phone: the full-size "Pro" models with an internal fan and a thick, aggressive body, and lighter "Air" models that drop the fan for a slimmer shape. The 10 Air belongs to the second group. Its siblings include the fan-cooled REDMAGIC 10S Pro and the newer REDMAGIC 11 Pro, which sit above it in price and performance. If you want maximum sustained power, those are the models to look at; the Air is the one for people who also want to carry the phone in a pocket without it feeling like a brick.

Against the broader market, its closest rival in spirit is the ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro, which uses a newer chip and a heavier body, while the OnePlus 13 is a general-purpose flagship with a large battery. You can place the Air directly against the OnePlus on the comparison page.

Design and display

The body is 164.3 x 76.6 x 7.85 mm with an aviation-aluminium mid-frame and glass on both sides. It comes in black (Twilight), white (Hailstone) and orange (Flare). The orange version is the showy one, with an openwork rear window; the other two are plain. Water and dust protection is only IP54, which means splash resistance rather than submersion, a lower grade than the IP68 on most mainstream flagships.

The front is dominated by a 6.8-inch AMOLED panel with a 20:9 ratio and a resolution of 2480 x 1116 pixels. REDMAGIC lists a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, a 93.7% screen-to-body ratio, 1,600 nits maximum brightness, 100% DCI-P3 coverage and a colour accuracy figure below Delta E 1, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. For gaming, the touch sampling rate matters as much as the refresh rate: the company quotes a peak of 2000 Hz with an average of 960 Hz. The front camera is a 16MP unit; the specification page does not describe how it is placed in the panel.

Performance and cooling

The processor is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, whose Cortex-X4 core runs at up to 3.3 GHz, paired with Adreno graphics. This is the previous-generation top Qualcomm chip, but it remains very capable for any current game. REDMAGIC says the chip is enhanced by its own RedCore R3 gaming chip and what it calls Energy Cube technology; the page gives no further detail on what each does. Memory options are 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X with 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage; the orange Flare model is sold only as 16GB + 512GB.

Because there is no fan, thermal management is handled by passive parts: an "ICE-X" system with a 9-layer vapour chamber (6,100 mm² of area), liquid metal, graphene, copper foil and thermal gel on the frame. One owner review on the store page praises the lack of a built-in fan because there is no inlet for dust to collect in. Passive cooling in a 7.85 mm body has limits, so very long sessions at maximum settings may result in throttling; independent tests are the best guide there.

The software is REDMAGIC OS 10. It includes Game Space, a customisable Magic Key, lighting controls for the RGB strips beside the triggers, and Google Gemini for AI assistance. The page states that the 10 Air receives regular updates every one to two months for three years from launch, including at least one major Android update, with regional variations in law possibly changing that.

Triggers, audio and haptics

The signature gaming feature is a pair of capacitive shoulder triggers with a 520 Hz touch sampling rate and RGB lighting. They map to on-screen controls, so a game without native controller support still works. Audio comes from dual speakers that REDMAGIC describes as DTS:X-certified and tuned with Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound, and the vibration motor is the "0815" linear type. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, dual nano-SIM with 5G SA and NSA support, and GPS on L1, L2 and L5 bands. The port is USB 2.0 Type-C, so check whether video output to a monitor is supported before counting on it.

The display is tuned for play as well: a high touch sampling rate shortens the gap between touch and response, and the triggers let you add two extra fingers to the game without covering the screen. How noticeable that is depends on the genre, with fast shooters showing more of a difference than role-playing or strategy games.

Camera

The rear camera is a 50MP + 50MP pair using OmniVision sensors (OV50E40 and OV50D40), with pixel sizes of 1.0 and 0.64 microns, apertures of f/1.88 and f/2.05, optical image stabilisation, a 7-element lens and an anti-glare coating. The page does not say what the second sensor is, so do not assume it is a telephoto; it is a secondary camera, and there is no stated optical zoom. The front camera is a 16MP OV16EQ at f/2.0 with AI enhancement. Gaming phones are rarely bought for their cameras, and REDMAGIC does not pretend otherwise: the camera is a competent extra rather than a headline feature.

Anyone planning to record video will not find 4K mentioned on the specification page, which lists only sensors, apertures and stabilisation. REDMAGIC also gives no detail on image processing, so low-light quality can only be judged from independent sample shots.

Battery and charging

The 6,000 mAh battery is large for a phone this slim, and the 80W wired charging that REDMAGIC specifies should refill it quickly. The box includes a power adapter and a clear case. No wireless charging is listed in the specifications. The company's own marketing line, "Power that won't quit," is a claim about endurance rather than a measured figure; real battery life will depend heavily on game, brightness and refresh rate.

Who it is for

This is a good fit for a mobile gamer who values portability, who wants shoulder triggers and a big battery, and who does not need the last few per cent of sustained performance. It also suits someone who wants a gaming-first phone but is willing to accept a modest camera and IP54 protection. Check the rankings to see how the Air's hardware compares with current phones across categories.

One practical point is the buying route. REDMAGIC sells mainly through its own regional web stores, and the global page lists several storage and colour combinations, a 12-month phone warranty and a 15-day return window, with carrier compatibility to be checked against the published band list before ordering. In other words, this is not a phone you simply pick up from a high-street carrier, so factor in import taxes where the company says it collects them in advance.

Compromises

The REDMAGIC 10 Air succeeds at being a slimmer, quieter gaming phone, and its honest strengths are the triggers, display and battery rather than the camera or water resistance.
