The OPPO A5x is a durability-minded budget phone. It pairs a 6000 mAh battery and 45W SUPERVOOC charging with IP65 water and dust resistance, a military-standard shock test and a 6.67-inch screen rated up to 1000 nits. Under the hood it uses the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1, a 4G-only chip, and it keeps a headphone jack and a microSD slot that many pricier phones have dropped. This page is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information from OPPO's global site. It covers the phone's place in the range, design and display, performance and software, the camera, battery and charging, who it suits and where it compromises.
Place in the lineup
The A series is OPPO's value-focused line, and the A5x is listed alongside the A5 5G, the A5, the A5i Pro and the A5i on the manufacturer's own page. It is a plain, sturdy model rather than a showcase. Buyers who want a stronger processor and more camera hardware would look higher up the A range, for example at the OPPO A6 Pro, or at the stylish OPPO Reno 14 in the mid-range.
The specification page, which gives the model number CPH2725, lists four memory options: 4GB of RAM with 64GB or 128GB of storage, 6GB with 128GB, and 8GB with 128GB. Which ones are sold depends on the market. OPPO's global page states no US price, so none is recorded, and it does not state a launch date. The date held for this entry comes from the rollout schedule and could not be confirmed on an official page.
Design and display
The body measures about 165.71 x 76.24 x 7.99 mm and weighs about 193 g, according to OPPO, which adds that size and weight can vary with configuration and manufacturing. Two colours are offered: Laser White, a pearlescent finish that shifts with the light, and Midnight Blue, a dark mirror-like finish. The durability story is central to the marketing. OPPO says the phone meets IP65 under controlled laboratory conditions following IEC 60529, which means it resists water jets and keeps dust out, though not immersion, and it warns that the protection can degrade over time and that liquid damage is not covered by the warranty. The company also says the phone passed multi-angle drop tests and high-intensity impact tests based on MIL-STD-810H methods and SGS certification, with the caveat that such tests do not guarantee it will survive every real-world accident.
The screen is a 6.67-inch LCD with a resolution of 720 x 1604 pixels, which works out to about 264 ppi. That is clearly lower than the full HD panels common elsewhere, so text and fine detail are less sharp. The refresh rate can switch between 60Hz and 90Hz, and touch sampling reaches 180Hz at maximum. OPPO states 850 nits of typical brightness and 1000 nits in high-brightness mode, and it covers 83% of DCI-P3 in its vivid mode. Two thoughtful touches stand out: Outdoor Mode raises brightness, sound and network performance, and Glove Touch keeps the screen responsive through gloves up to 5mm thick, with Splash Touch turned off while it is active. The manufacturer also notes that the light sensor hole is hidden at the top of the screen, so coloured or dark screen protectors can interfere with it.
Performance and software
The Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 is an eight-core chip paired with an Adreno 610 GPU running at 1050MHz. OPPO's overview describes it as built on an 11nm process. It is a modest processor, comparable to entry-level chips from several years ago, and it has no 5G modem; the specification page lists several regional band configurations for GSM, WCDMA and LTE. Everyday tasks such as messaging, video streaming and navigation will be fine. Demanding games and heavy multitasking are not what it is made for.
RAM is LPDDR4X and storage is UFS 2.1, with microSD card support and USB OTG. OPPO's RAM Expansion adds virtual memory taken from unused storage. Like all such features, this helps keep apps in memory but does not turn a 4GB phone into an 8GB one. The phone runs ColorOS 15.0, and the page highlights a Trinity Engine that balances power use, memory and background activity, along with a "36-Month Fluency" protection claim. OPPO limits that claim to versions with 128GB of storage or less and says it does not mean there will never be any lag. AI tools such as AI Eraser 2.0, AI Clarity Enhancer and AI Smart Image Matting 2.0 are listed, with a disclaimer that some may arrive by later update depending on the region.
Connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 with SBC, AAC and aptX codecs, USB Type-C and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone does not support NFC, which rules out contactless payments in many markets. An infrared lamp lets it act as a remote control for televisions, fans and air conditioners. Security comes from a side fingerprint sensor and face recognition.
Camera
The A5x has a minimal camera setup. The rear camera is a single 32MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, a 76-degree field of view, a five-element lens and autofocus. The overview shows an IR sensor next to it, which is used for the remote function and is not a second imaging camera. The front camera is 5MP with an f/2.2 aperture. Video is limited to 1080p and 720p at 30 frames per second on both sides, and the specification notes that dual-view video and slow motion are not supported on 4G models.
The shooting modes include Photo, Video, Portrait, Night, Pro, Panorama, Time-lapse, Sticker and HI-RES on the rear camera, with Retouch and Screen Fill Light added on the front. OPPO also lists AI Eraser for removing unwanted objects. With a single main lens, wide-angle and zoom shots are out of reach, and a 5MP selfie camera is below what many competitors offer. The camera is acceptable for social media and document snapshots, but it is not a reason to buy the phone.
Battery and charging
The battery is rated at 5860 mAh and has a typical capacity of 6000 mAh. OPPO claims it retains more than 80% of its capacity after five years of simulated use, based on a full charge cycle every 1.1 days in its laboratory. For charging, the phone supports 45W SUPERVOOC, with 15W VOOC, 33W PPS and 13.5W PD as other supported modes. OPPO's own tests claim 30% in 19 minutes and 50% in 36 minutes, with built-in temperature control. A charger is listed in the box, though contents may vary by market. A 6000 mAh cell in a 7.99 mm body is an appealing combination, and 45W is faster than many phones of this price manage.
Who it is for and what it gives up
The OPPO A5x suits people who treat their phone roughly or use it outdoors: a worker, a student with a long commute, a first-time smartphone owner or a parent buying for a child. IP65 protection, MIL-STD-810H testing, a bright screen, Glove Touch, a headphone jack, a microSD slot and a big battery with quick charging cover practical needs.
The compromises are equally clear. The display is a 720p LCD at up to 90Hz, the chip is entry-level and 4G only, the camera is a single 32MP lens plus a 5MP selfie camera, there is no NFC, and video is capped at 1080p. If you want a sharper screen or contactless payments, look elsewhere.
