The vivo V50e is a mid-range 5G phone that puts its weight behind two ideas: a slim, curved-glass body and a camera setup built around portraits. vivo announced it in India on 10 April 2025 and put it on sale on 17 April 2025, in Sapphire Blue and Pearl White. It runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7300, carries a 5,600 mAh battery with 90W wired charging, and has an IP68 and IP69 rating that is unusual at this tier. This page is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information, and it sets out what the phone offers, where it sits in the range and what you give up.

Where it sits in the lineup

The V series is vivo's design-and-camera line, and the "e" suffix marks the more affordable branch of it. The V50e follows the V40e and, according to vivo, improves on it in brightness, drop resistance and the size of the front aura light. Above it in the family is the standard V50, and the family has since moved on: the vivo V60 is the newer model in the series. If you are weighing it against rivals from other brands, our comparison of the vivo V50e and Galaxy A56 lines up the two side by side.

It is worth being clear about the market. vivo's own page for this model is the Indian one, and the spec sheet lists India as the country of origin. The device is not a flagship, and it does not try to be one: the pitch is style plus photography plus endurance at a moderate price point. We do not quote a US price here because the manufacturer's sources we used do not give one.

Design and display

The phone measures about 163.3 x 76.7 mm and weighs 186 g. vivo gives the thickness as 7.39 mm for Pearl White and 7.61 mm for Sapphire Blue, a difference that comes from the finish of each colour. The back is described as a plastic composite sheet coating, not glass, which keeps weight down and helps explain how a 5,600 mAh cell fits into so thin a body. Sapphire Blue is the more distinctive option: vivo says the pattern is crafted so that no two units are alike, and notes in a disclaimer that the difference between units may not be visible to the naked eye. Pearl White is the plainer, shimmering finish.

The camera module on the back is a ring design, with the aura light forming a second circle beside the lenses. It is a clear visual signature and looks different from the pill-shaped islands used by many competitors.

The front is a 6.77-inch AMOLED panel, measured diagonally with the corners treated as square, at 2392 x 1080 pixels for about 387 ppi. vivo calls it a quad-curved screen, meaning all four edges curve. The panel refreshes at up to 120 Hz, supports the P3 colour gamut and is listed with 1.07 billion colours. vivo quotes a local peak brightness of 1,800 nits and a maximum global brightness of 1,300 nits, plus a contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1. These are manufacturer figures and should be read as upper limits for specific situations, such as bright highlights in HDR content, not as constant outputs. A low-blue-light certification is also mentioned. Biometrics are handled by an in-display optical fingerprint sensor.

Durability is a real strength for the class. The phone is rated IP68 and IP69, which covers dust, continuous immersion and high-pressure, high-temperature water jets under laboratory conditions. vivo says the screen glass is Diamond Shield Glass developed with Schott, claims a 50% improvement in drop resistance over the V40e, and cites an SGS five-star drop-resistance certification. The page also describes an underwater photography mode, with a stated limit of 1.5 metres depth and 30 minutes in fresh water.

Performance and software

The processor is the MediaTek Dimensity 7300, an octa-core 4 nm chip with four cores at 2.5 GHz and four at 2.0 GHz. vivo quotes an AnTuTu score of 685,000, which is a manufacturer figure from its own testing; treat it as a rough indicator of the tier, not as a promise. In practice, a chip of this class handles everyday apps, video and casual to moderately demanding games without trouble, and is not aimed at sustained high-frame-rate gaming. The company points to a cooling system with a total area of 13,690 mm² and ten temperature sensors, which is generous for a phone this thin.

Memory is 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, with storage in 128 GB and 256 GB versions on UFS 2.2. vivo adds up to 8 GB of extended RAM, which it states is realised by software and limited to the size of the physical memory. Expandable storage is not supported, so choose the capacity you need at purchase. The phone has two nano SIM slots in a dual-standby arrangement, and the spec sheet lists no NFC, no eSIM and no FM radio. The lack of NFC matters in markets where contactless payments are common, so check that before buying.

The software is Funtouch OS 15 on Android 15. vivo promises three generations of Android updates and four years of software and security updates, which is a clear commitment for the category, though it falls short of the longest support windows offered by some rivals. The AI features include AI Note Assist, AI Transcript Assist for converting audio to text in more than 40 languages, vivo Call Translation, Circle to Search and Google Gemini, along with an AI Image Expander, AI Photo Enhancer and AI Eraser 2.0. Several of these need an internet connection or a vivo account, as the footnotes make clear.

Camera

The rear camera pairs a 50 MP main sensor, the Sony IMX882 with optical stabilisation and an f/1.79 aperture, with an 8 MP ultra-wide camera at f/2.2 and a 116-degree field of view. There is no telephoto lens, so zoom beyond the main camera's range depends on cropping and processing. vivo emphasises its Multifocal Pro Portrait, which offers 1x, 1.5x and 2x portrait focal lengths with different bokeh styles, and a night mode that it says gathers 2.8 times more light thanks to stabilisation, a figure measured against phones without it.

The front camera is a 50 MP unit with autofocus, an f/2.0 aperture and a 92-degree wide-angle view intended to fit groups into a selfie. The Aura Light is the distinctive part: a ring light on the back that vivo says has a 93% larger emitting area than on the V40e and is 143 times softer than a standard flash. It is meant for portraits in low light, with brightness and colour temperature adjusted to the environment. The software side adds a wedding portrait mode, film-style looks, studio portrait effects and the ActuaTone skin-tone processing. Video can be recorded in 4K on both the rear and front cameras, which is useful for vloggers, and the rear camera supports stabilised 4K.

The spec sheet lists scene modes including night, portrait, high resolution, slow motion, time-lapse, pro, dual view and live photo. The 50 MP figure for the main sensor applies to the high-resolution mode, as vivo notes, and pixel counts vary in other modes.

Battery and charging

The battery is the headline: 5,600 mAh typical, with a rated capacity of 5,490 mAh, and 90W wired charging with the charger in the box. vivo claims 50% in 20 minutes, and its own tests quote 26.5 hours of YouTube and 9.7 hours of PUBG playback. These endurance numbers come from vivo's labs and will vary with signal, brightness and settings. The company also states that the battery should retain at least 80% of its health after 4.5 years, with 1,500 charge cycles, under its test assumptions. Wireless charging is not supported, which is normal at this price.

A 5,600 mAh cell in a 7.4 mm body is a notable engineering result, and it is the main reason to pick this phone over thicker alternatives with similar chips.

Who it is for

The V50e suits people who care about how a phone looks and photographs people, who want a large battery that charges quickly, and who like the idea of a water-jet-resistant phone without paying flagship prices. It is a good match for social-media users, group-selfie fans and anyone who takes portraits at night. It also works for people who keep phones for several years, given the update commitment and the durability ratings.

Shoppers considering other brands might also look at the realme 15, as another current mid-range option, or the vivo X200 FE if the budget stretches to a compact camera-focused model. The rankings page shows how the V50e's specifications compare across the range.

Compromises

The trade-offs are clear from the sheet. There is no telephoto camera and no NFC. The back is plastic, not glass. Storage is UFS 2.2 and cannot be expanded, and RAM is LPDDR4X, both a step behind current standards. The Dimensity 7300 is capable but not a gaming chip. Wireless charging is absent, and the extended RAM is software-based, so it does not equal a physical memory upgrade. Many AI functions depend on a network connection and an account. Finally, because the manufacturer's headline figures for brightness, battery life and drop resistance come from its own labs, real-world results will differ. Taken together, the V50e is a focused phone: strong on battery, durability and portraits, with the usual mid-range economies elsewhere.
