The vivo V40 Lite is a slim mid-range smartphone from vivo's V series, which is sold mainly in Southeast Asia and other regional markets. The version described here is the 5G model documented on vivo's Malaysian and Philippine pages: a 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen, a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip, a 5,000 mAh battery with 80W charging and an IP64 rating, in a plastic body that weighs 188 g. This page is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information. vivo's pages do not state a launch date or a US price, so neither is given as an official fact.
Place in the lineup
The V40 Lite belongs to the V40 family and is designed for people who want a good-looking phone with a bright screen and fast charging at a moderate price. The vivo V40e is a related model in the series, and the later vivo V50 Lite shows where the Lite line went next. One thing to know is that the name covers more than one variant. vivo's Philippine page lists a 4G version built on a Snapdragon 685 alongside the 5G version with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, and the rear camera pairing differs between them. This page covers the 5G model with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 and an 8MP ultrawide camera, which is the one on vivo's Malaysian specification sheet. Memory options on that sheet are 8GB with 256GB, 12GB with 256GB and 12GB with 512GB.
Design and display
vivo describes a titanium-inspired look with a cushion-cut diamond camera island, a metallic high-gloss frame and a textured back. Colours on the specification sheet are Dynamic Black, Titanium Silver and Dreamy Violet, and a footnote on the product page also mentions Emerald Green. The back cover is plastic, which keeps the weight down: 188 g for the black version and 190 g for the silver and violet ones, with thicknesses of 7.79 mm and 7.95 mm. The size is 163.23 x 75.93 mm. The phone has an IP64 rating, which means protection against dust ingress and splashing water, but not immersion. vivo also advertises wet-hand touch, so the screen can keep responding when your fingers are damp.
The display is a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2400 x 1080, about 394 pixels per inch. The specification sheet lists refresh rates of 60Hz and 120Hz, a local peak brightness of 1,800 nits, P3 colour gamut coverage and a 107 percent colour saturation figure. The product page mentions a lower figure of 1,200 nits for high brightness mode in sunlight. These two numbers describe different measurement conditions, and the 1,800 nits peak applies only to small areas of the image, so the 1,200 nits value is the more cautious indicator of what to expect outdoors. A fingerprint sensor sits under the display and is of the optical type, according to the specification sheet.
Performance and software
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is an eight-core chip built on a 4nm process, with two performance cores at 2.2 GHz and six efficiency cores at 1.95 GHz. It is an entry-level platform for everyday tasks such as messaging, social media, video and light games, not a gaming chip. vivo's Philippine page cites an AnTuTu score above 450,000 for the 8GB + 256GB version, which is a manufacturer figure from its own test and only a rough guide. RAM is LPDDR4X and storage is UFS 2.2, which is a mid-range combination. The phone also offers extended RAM, which borrows part of the storage to act as extra memory; vivo lists 8GB or 12GB of it, and it is software-based, so it is not the same as physical RAM. The numbers on this page use the physical RAM only. Storage can be expanded through a microSD card that shares the second SIM slot, so you must choose between a second nano SIM and a memory card.
The phone ships with Funtouch OS 14 based on Android 14. vivo does not state an update policy on the pages we reviewed, so check how many Android and security updates are promised for your market before you buy. Funtouch OS adds features such as Memory Booster, a RAM Saver that compresses app memory and an App Retainer that restores an app to the last screen you saw. These are convenience features, and vivo claims 20GB of storage compression, a number that depends on what you store.
Camera
The rear system has a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and an 8MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 120-degree field of view. There is no telephoto lens, so zoom beyond the main camera is digital. The front camera is 32MP with an f/2.45 aperture. vivo lists a long set of modes: night, portrait, pano, document, slow motion, time-lapse and pro on the rear, and night, portrait, photo, video and live photo on the front. A feature called Aura Light, a ring light around the camera island, gives soft, even light for portraits and is positioned as better than a regular flash. As with any phone at this level, image quality depends more on processing and lighting than on the megapixel count, and we cannot confirm results without independent tests.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000 mAh, with a rated capacity of 4,900 mAh, and charging goes up to 80W. vivo says the phone reaches 80 percent in about half an hour and cites an overnight charging protection mode that adapts to sleep hours. It also claims four years of battery health and about 15 hours of YouTube streaming. These are manufacturer figures under laboratory conditions, not independent results. Charging power of 80W is high for this price class, but remember that the exact charger in the box depends on the market, and the specification sheet lists a charger as included in the Malaysian version.
Who it is for
The V40 Lite suits buyers who want a lightweight phone with a bright AMOLED display, quick charging and a stylish design, and who do not need top gaming performance. It works as a second phone or as a reliable everyday device. For a point of comparison from another brand with the same chip family, see the HMD Fusion, which also uses the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 but has a lower-resolution screen. For a stronger mid-range option, look at the Samsung Galaxy A56 in the V40 Lite vs Galaxy A56 table. The rankings page lists how phones compare on screen, battery and other measures.
Compromises
- Entry-level chip: The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is fine for daily use but limits demanding games.
- Plastic back: The body is light but not made of glass or metal.
- IP64 only: The rating covers splashes, not immersion.
- Hybrid SIM slot: A microSD card replaces the second SIM.
- Connectivity details: The sheet lists Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi, and NFC is listed as supported in Malaysia but not in the Philippines.
- Variant confusion: A 4G model with a different chip and camera shares the name in some markets.
- Missing information: No launch date, price or update policy is given on the pages we reviewed.
In short, the V40 Lite offers a bright 120Hz screen, a big battery and very fast charging in a light, attractive body. Its limits are the entry-level processor, the plastic build and the variation between markets, so confirm the exact version for sale where you live.
