If you want a flagship Android phone that does not feel like a tablet in your pocket, the OPPO Find X8 is one of the more interesting answers from the 2024 generation. It is the smaller sibling of the Find X8 Pro: a 6.59-inch screen, a body that is just 7.85 mm thin and 193 g light, and still the same MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor, an 80W wired and 50W wireless charging system, and IP68 and IP69 protection. This page is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information, and it focuses on what choosing the compact model means in daily use.
The compact option in the range
The Find X8 series launched in November 2024 with two phones. The bigger Find X8 Pro carries a 6.78-inch display, a larger battery and a four-camera array with a second periscope lens. The standard model keeps what most people use every day, and trims the rest. The result is a phone that shares its brain with the Pro but asks for less pocket space and less weight. OPPO's official page does not give a US launch price, so this review makes no statement about cost.
Compact flagships are a small group. Many manufacturers have moved to ever larger screens, which leaves buyers with small hands, or those who simply want a lighter phone, with few choices at the top end. The Find X8 competes in this niche with models such as the Galaxy S25, and the Find X8 vs Galaxy S25 comparison shows how the two stack up on screen, battery and camera hardware. The newer Find X9 continues this line, so it is worth checking whether the newer generation is available in your market before deciding.
Size, weight and everyday handling
The measured dimensions on OPPO's specification page are about 157.35 mm in height and 74.33 mm in width, with a thickness of 7.85 mm in Space Black and Star Grey and 7.95 mm in Shell Pink. At 193 g it is clearly lighter than the roughly 215 g of the Pro, and that difference is felt in the hand and in a jacket pocket. The screen-to-body ratio is quoted as 94.3 percent, so the compact body does not come at the cost of thick borders. Three colours are offered: Space Black, Shell Pink and Star Grey, and the official images show a round camera plate in the same finish as the frame.
The screen is a 6.59-inch flexible AMOLED with 2760 x 1256 resolution, about 460 pixels per inch and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. OPPO gives 800 nits as typical brightness, 1,600 nits in the high-brightness mode and 4,500 nits as a peak value at 1 percent average picture level, which means only a very small bright area reaches that figure. The PWM dimming rate is listed as 3840Hz, higher than the figure given for the larger Pro, a detail that matters for people who notice flicker at low brightness. The cover glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Together with the IP68 and IP69 rating, the phone is built to take rain, dust and the occasional drop without trouble, although no glass is drop-proof.
Platform and software
The Dimensity 9400 is a 3nm flagship chip with an Immortalis G925 MC12 graphics unit, and it is paired with LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage. The standard Find X8 is offered in 12GB plus 256GB and 16GB plus 512GB versions, so unlike the Pro it gives buyers a choice. Wi-Fi support is Wi-Fi 6, one generation behind the Wi-Fi 7 of the Pro, while Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and a USB-C port are the same. That Wi-Fi difference will not matter to most people unless they have a Wi-Fi 7 router and a fast internet connection, but it is a real distinction on the specification sheet.
The software is ColorOS 15.0, and OPPO's page highlights features such as a Touch to Share function that works with iPhones, and a page of AI tools. Which of these tools are available depends on region, and OPPO does not publish a detailed update commitment on the product page. The phone supports a physical nano-SIM and an eSIM, and OPPO also lists a magnetic accessory system called OPPO Mag for charging and cases. The box is stated to contain a charger, a cable and a protective case, subject to market.
What three cameras can do
The camera set is the clearest difference from the Pro, and it is still strong. The main camera is a 50MP sensor of 1/1.56 inch with an f/1.8 aperture, a 24mm equivalent focal length and optical stabilisation. The ultrawide is a 50MP sensor with f/2.0 and a 120-degree view. The telephoto is a 50MP periscope unit with a 73mm focal length, which gives 3x optical zoom, with a 1/1.95-inch sensor, an f/2.6 aperture and stabilisation. OPPO describes a total zoom range from 0.6x to 120x, with optical zoom up to 3x and digital zoom up to 18x on the specification page.
For most photography, 3x is the practical sweet spot for portraits and street photography, and everything beyond it is a bonus. What you give up compared with the Pro is the 6x periscope lens, so distant subjects like stage performers or wildlife will rely on cropping. What you may gain is a simpler camera island and a lighter phone. OPPO also states that all cameras can record 4K video at 60 frames per second in Dolby Vision, a feature that is worth noting for people who shoot a lot of video, because it applies to the ultrawide and telephoto and not only to the main lens. The front camera is a 32MP unit with f/2.4.
Battery and charging
A compact body means a smaller battery. The Find X8 has a typical capacity of 5,630 mAh and a rated capacity of 5,490 mAh, using a silicon-carbon design. That is lower than the 5,910 mAh of the Pro, but it is still large for a phone of this size, and it is a good example of how silicon-carbon cells let manufacturers pack more energy into thin bodies. Charging reaches 80W with SUPERVOOC over a cable and 50W with AIRVOOC wirelessly, so a fast top-up is possible either way. As with every battery, real endurance depends on the screen settings, network quality and the apps you use, and a smaller phone with a very bright screen will not match a larger one on long days.
Who should choose it
The Find X8 fits people who want a premium Android phone they can use with one hand, who value a thin body and low weight, and who take photos mostly in the range from ultrawide to 3x. It also fits anyone who wants a high-end chip, fast charging and water protection without moving to a large phone. It is a particularly logical option for buyers who liked the idea of the Pro but found it too big.
Where it asks for compromises
The compromises are clear. The battery is smaller than the Pro's, the camera set lacks the 6x periscope, and Wi-Fi 7 is missing. The Dimensity 9400 is powerful, but the software support period and the app experience differ from Samsung and Google phones, and the official page gives no US price or US availability details, so buyers outside OPPO's core markets should verify band support and warranty terms. If battery life and camera reach matter more than size, the Pro is the better choice. For a broader view of how the Find X8 compares with other models, see the rankings.
