The HONOR 200 is the middle child of the 2024 HONOR 200 trio, and it is the one that gets the least attention next to the headline Pro model. That is a pity, because on paper it is the more balanced phone for many buyers: it is thinner, about 12 grams lighter, keeps the same triple 50MP camera idea and the same 100W charging, and drops mainly the parts that cost money, such as the flagship-class chip and wireless charging. This overview is based on the published specifications and the maker's own launch material, and it tries to show what you gain and what you give up in each direction.
Where it sits in the lineup
HONOR revealed the 200 series in Paris on 12 June 2024, and the UK pre-order window opened the same day, with the series quoted from £499.99. The press material lists the HONOR 200 in four colours: Coral Pink, Moonlight White, Emerald Green and Black, with availability varying by region. Its natural neighbours are the HONOR 200 Pro, which adds a larger screen, a bigger main sensor, a faster chip and wireless charging, and the HONOR 200 Lite, which is a different class of device with a lower price. Later in the brand's catalogue the HONOR 400 took over the same spot in the range. HONOR did not publish an official US price for this model, so this page lists none.
Design and display
At 161.5 x 74.6 x 7.7 mm and about 187 g, the phone is clearly easier to live with than its Pro sibling. HONOR describes an "equal-depth quad-curved" screen, meaning all four edges bend by a similar amount, under aluminosilicate glass. The display is a 6.7-inch AMOLED at 2664 x 1200 pixels with a stated 435 PPI, a 19.98:9 shape and support for 1.07 billion colours. Refresh rate reaches 120Hz, and HONOR claims a 4000-nit HDR peak, again with the caveat that this is a lab number for full-screen video of the right kind. Other advertised display details include wet-touch enhancement, an always-on display mode and HDR certification from the major streaming services.
The eye-care package mirrors the Pro: 3840Hz PWM dimming, hardware low blue light, an AI-driven circadian night display and a dynamic dimming mode that changes light intensity over time. The point for a buyer is simple. If you read at night or are sensitive to screen flicker, these settings matter more than peak brightness, and the 200 offers them at a lower price tier than the Pro. The panel is smaller and slightly lower in resolution than the Pro's, but at roughly 435 PPI the difference to the eye is small.
Performance and software
The processor is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, a 4nm chip with a one-plus-three-plus-four layout: a Cortex-A715 core at 2.63GHz, three more A715 cores at 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8GHz, with an Adreno 720 GPU. HONOR claims a 15% CPU gain, 50% GPU gain and 20% efficiency gain, but does not state on the page which previous chip those percentages are measured against, so they cannot be read as a comparison with a specific rival. In practice this class of processor is built for smooth daily use, social apps, photography and casual games rather than sustained high-end gaming. The memory options listed on the UK specification page are 8GB with 256GB and 12GB with 512GB, and the marketing text highlights the larger one.
The software is MagicOS 8.0 on top of Android 14, with the same family of features as the Pro: Magic Portal for moving content between apps, Magic Capsule, a three-finger gesture that saves items to Global Favorites, a blur tool for private information and AI editing tools such as an eraser and adjustable bokeh. Cooling uses a stainless steel vapour chamber with a stated 34,696 mm² area. Connectivity covers 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, an infrared blaster, dual nano-SIM with eSIM and GPS with several satellite systems. Unlike the Pro, the pages reviewed here do not state an ingress protection rating for this model, so water and dust resistance should be treated as unconfirmed.
Camera
The camera set is where HONOR kept the family identity. The main camera is a 50MP Sony IMX906 sensor of 1/1.56 inch with optical stabilisation and an f/1.95 lens, using four-in-one binning for an equivalent 2.0 μm pixel. It is a smaller sensor than the Pro's, so low-light headroom should be somewhat lower in principle, although the maker's AI processing narrows the gap in its own examples. The telephoto camera is the same idea as on the Pro: 50MP, Sony IMX856, 2.5x optical zoom, optical stabilisation, f/2.4 and digital zoom stated up to 50x. A 12MP ultra-wide with macro ability (112° field of view, focus from 2.5 cm) completes the rear trio, and the front camera is a 50MP f/2.1 unit.
The Studio Harcourt portrait styles are present here too, as are the AI bokeh adjustment, night portrait processing and HDR dual style. Video goes up to 4K on both sides. Having a real 2.5x telephoto in a phone of this type is the most useful differentiator against typical mid-range rivals, which often rely on a 2MP depth sensor or a digital crop. The caveat, as ever, is that this page can describe the hardware and the claimed features but cannot rank the photo quality against other brands.
Battery and charging
The battery is the same silicon-carbon design as in the Pro: a typical capacity of 5200 mAh and a rated capacity of 5100 mAh. Wired charging is listed at 100W, with the maker claiming 49% after 15 minutes in its lab, using HONOR's own charger. The page does not list wireless charging for this model, which is the largest practical charging difference to the Pro. That said, a large battery in a 7.7 mm body with very fast wired charging is already a strong combination, and for most people who charge overnight or at a desk the missing wireless pad will rarely matter.
Who it is for
The 200 suits buyers who want most of the portrait-focused camera experience in a more comfortable body: smaller hands, pocket-friendly width, lower weight. It is also a sensible pick for people who are happy with a strong upper mid-range chip and do not need the top-end gaming potential of the Pro. If you want to check how it stacks up against another brand's mid-range phone, the comparison with the Samsung Galaxy A56 puts the key numbers next to each other, and the rankings show where it lands across the whole catalogue.
Compromises
The trade-offs are visible in the spec sheet. There is no wireless charging, the main sensor is smaller than the Pro's, the processor is a notch lower, and no water or dust rating is documented in the sources used here. The USB-C port is USB 2.0, so transfers are slow. The quad-curved glass can pick up accidental touches and complicates case choices. Heavy branded software and region-dependent AI features mean the experience can differ between countries. The phone is also now a 2024 model, so buyers choosing today may weigh it against newer HONOR releases. For a person who values a light, slim phone with a 5200 mAh battery and a real telephoto, though, the HONOR 200 remains a well-argued package.
