The Galaxy A57 5G is Samsung's 2026 upper mid-range phone and the lead model of the new Galaxy A series. It is thinner and lighter than its predecessor, has a 6.7-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED+ screen, a 5,000 mAh battery with 45W charging and a promise of six years of Android and security updates. This page is a review based on the published specifications and manufacturer information. It covers where the phone sits among Samsung's models, what changed from the previous generation, and the compromises that come with a lower price than a Galaxy S.
Where it sits in the lineup
Samsung announced the Galaxy A57 5G and the cheaper Galaxy A37 5G on 26 March 2026 and described the A57 as the most powerful Galaxy A series phone so far. Sales began in April; in Germany, Samsung's newsroom reported availability on 10 April 2026 with recommended prices of 529 euros for the 8GB/128GB version and 589 euros for 8GB/256GB. We could not confirm an official US launch price from Samsung's own pages, so none is listed here. The A57 succeeds the Galaxy A56, and the page Galaxy A57 vs Galaxy A56 compares the two. Above it in Samsung's range sit the Galaxy S models, for example the Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S25 FE, and a rival in the same price class is the Pixel 9a.
Design and display
The A57 measures 161.5 x 76.8 x 6.9 mm and weighs 179 g. Samsung highlights the thickness in its own comparison: 6.9 mm against 7.4 mm for the A56, which makes the new phone noticeably slimmer, and it is also lighter. On the back, the triple camera sits on a raised module with a translucent edge, and the finish is glossy. The US product page lists three colours, Awesome Icyblue, Awesome Gray and Awesome Navy, while Samsung's German announcement also lists Awesome Lilac, so the palette depends on the market. The phone is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, and Samsung says the front and back use Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+.
The display is a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED+ panel with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and Samsung's Vision Booster technology, which adapts the picture to bright light. Samsung says the screen has an Eye Care certification from SGS based on reduced harmful blue light. We did not find a manufacturer figure for peak brightness in the sources we used, so we do not quote one. The screen size is the same as on the A37, but the A57 uses the higher-tier Super AMOLED+ panel while the A37 has a Super AMOLED panel. For a mid-range phone, a 120Hz AMOLED screen is the standard to expect and the A57 delivers it.
Performance and software
The processor is the Exynos 1680, a 4nm octa-core chip. For the new generation Samsung states improvements of 12.5% for the CPU, 13.8% for the GPU and 42% for the NPU, which are manufacturer claims relative to the previous model rather than independent results. The A57 comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage in the European specification. Samsung also says the vapor chamber is 13% larger than before, which should help keep performance steady during gaming or long video recording sessions. The chip is not a flagship part, so demanding 3D games at the highest settings and heavy multitasking will not match a Galaxy S model, but day-to-day use should be smooth.
The phone ships with Android 16 and One UI 8.5. The long support period is a major selling point: Samsung promises six generations of operating system updates and six years of security updates. Samsung also brings its "Awesome Intelligence" features to the A series, including Voice Transcription in the Voice Recorder app, AI Select on the Edge Panel, Object Eraser with more natural results, Best Face for group photos, Edit Suggestion, Auto Trim for video editing and Circle to Search with Google, which can now recognise several objects at once. Bixby works as a conversational agent for settings, and Gemini can handle tasks across apps. Security features include Knox Vault, Auto Blocker, Private Share, theft protection and a new Private Album. Connectivity listed by Samsung includes Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.0, in addition to 5G.
Camera
The rear camera has three lenses: a 50MP wide camera with optical image stabilisation and an f/1.8 aperture, a 12MP ultrawide at f/2.2, and a 5MP macro at f/2.4. The front camera is 12MP at f/2.2 and supports Super HDR video according to Samsung. There is no telephoto lens, so zoom beyond the main camera relies on cropping, which is the typical limit of this price class. Samsung says the improved image signal processor gives brighter, clearer pictures, that Nightography has been optimised for low light, and that a faster shutter speed helps freeze fleeting moments. On the A57, it also reports sharper detail and less noise from the new image processing. AI-based subject recognition and scene optimisation are meant to preserve natural skin tones and separate the background from portraits.
The 5MP macro camera is a modest component, and many buyers will find the ultrawide more useful. As with any phone of this class, the final picture quality will depend on software tuning, and independent camera tests are the best way to judge low-light results. What is clear from the specifications is that the lens set is the familiar wide, ultrawide and macro combination.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000 mAh (rated minimum 4,905 mAh). Samsung says it supports up to two days of use in some descriptions, but this depends heavily on network conditions and usage, and the company itself notes that real battery life varies. Wired charging is up to 45W through Super Fast Charging 2.0, which Samsung says reaches up to 60% in about 30 minutes; a charger is not necessarily included in the box in all markets, so check your region. It is a slim phone with a large battery, which is a good combination. For most people this means a full day of mixed use with some margin,.
Who it is for
The A57 suits people who want a Samsung phone with a good screen, a dependable main camera, IP68 protection and a long update promise without paying flagship money. It is a sensible choice for users who plan to keep their phone for five or six years, since few phones at this price offer six years of updates. It is also attractive to those who find large flagships heavy: at 179 g and 6.9 mm it is easy to carry. Owners of the A56 will see an incremental upgrade, most visibly in thickness, chip and the extra software features. Anyone who wants a telephoto camera, the fastest processor or the brightest display should look at the Galaxy S range instead, and the rankings page shows how the models compare.
Compromises
The A57 is not cheap for a mid-range phone, with a recommended price of 529 euros in Germany. It has no telephoto camera, only a 5MP macro, and the chip is clearly below flagship level. Samsung does not list wireless charging in the specifications we used, so it should not be assumed. The 45W speed is slower than the 60W of the S26 Ultra. The glossy back will show fingerprints, the colour range differs by market, and storage starts at 128GB without a memory-card slot mentioned in the sources, so check before buying if you rely on one. We could not confirm the US price or the exact date of US availability, which matters for American buyers. Taken together, the Galaxy A57 5G is a well-rounded mid-range phone whose strongest arguments are its slim body, its 120Hz AMOLED display and its six-year software promise.
