The HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12-inch is a thin flagship tablet that Huawei presents around three ideas: an ultra-thin and light body, a low-glare OLED display and AI-supported productivity. Huawei's global product page and its specification page are the sources for this article. They contain no launch date, and no price, so this page describes the tablet as documented and does not give either. Every number below is a Huawei figure, and many are marked by Huawei as laboratory data that can vary.

4.7 millimetres and 454 grams

Huawei's headline claim is the body: 4.7 mm thick and about 454 grams including the battery, with dimensions of 264.2 by 172.9 millimetres. The company says an architectural design places each component to deliver performance in a slim form, and that its reinforced structure raises bend resistance by 50 percent. It is described as a full-metal unibody. The back has what Huawei calls a luminous finish that creates a rippled light effect across the panel, and the colours are Blue and Space Gray. The footnote warns that weight and thickness can vary with product specifications, manufacturing and measurement, and that versions differ by region.

A 12-inch OLED with less glare

The 12-inch screen is a Flexible OLED with a resolution of 3036 by 1952 pixels and 302 ppi, a screen-to-body ratio of 93 percent and a bezel of just 3.55 mm. Huawei lists a peak brightness of 1,600 nits, a refresh rate of 144 Hz, a contrast ratio of 2,000,000 to 1 and 1.07 billion colours with a P3 wide colour gamut. The 12-inch size is measured diagonally assuming a standard rectangle, and the actual display area is smaller because of rounded corners.

The PaperMatte variant deserves attention. Huawei describes PaperMatte as a screen defined by Huawei that forms diffuse reflection to reduce the effect of light and sunlight. It uses a high-precision nano-level etching process to cut glare and sparkle, and the company claims a 30 percent higher anti-reflection rate. It carries TÜV Rheinland Full Care Display 5.0 certification and SGS Low Visual Fatigue A+ 3.0 Premium Performance certification. A footnote says the PaperMatte display is supported only by the PaperMatte Edition of the 12-inch model, so check which version you are buying.

Performance, memory and cooling

The page does not name the processor. It gives 12 GB of RAM with 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, and notes that the usable capacity is lower because system software takes some space. The operating system is HarmonyOS 4.3. For heat, Huawei cites a 7.2 W centralised cooling system that improves heat dissipation by 30 percent, to keep performance smooth under high load. Connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi with a Smart Antenna 2.0 system that switches intelligently between four Wi-Fi antennas for faster speeds and stronger resistance to interference, Bluetooth 6.0 with support for AAC, LDAC and L2HC audio, and NearLink. The USB Type-C port is USB 3.1 Gen 1 with DisplayPort 1.2 output, but Huawei notes that the included cable supports only USB 2.0, and a cable that supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 must be bought separately. Satellite positioning covers GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS.

Battery and charging

The typical battery capacity is 10,400 mAh outside the EU and 9,760 mAh in the EU, and the footnote gives rated capacities of 10,300 mAh and 9,660 mAh respectively. Huawei says the tablet plays local video for up to 14.7 hours. Charging reaches a maximum of 66 W with the Huawei SuperCharge cable and adapter, and wired reverse charging tops out at 40 W so the tablet can power other devices, with a maximum 1.5 A at 5 V for the OTG output. Outside the EU the box holds a SuperCharge 100 W charger, while in the EU it is sold separately. The battery is built in and cannot be removed.

Sound and cameras

Audio comes from a four-speaker crossover system with a quad-driver bass unit, which Huawei says delivers balanced sound with rich bass and crisp details. Cameras are a 50MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture, autofocus and an LED flash, capable of photos up to 8192 by 6144 pixels and video up to 1920 by 1080, and a 12MP front camera with an f/2.4 aperture and fixed focus. The company's marketing frames these as tools for calls and everyday photos, not as a photography feature.

Stylus, keyboard and software

The HUAWEI M-Pencil Pro is not standard; the page says the stylus needs to be purchased separately. Huawei lists over 10,000 levels of pressure sensitivity, precision tips and an AI Button at the top of the pen that opens Celia, its assistant, for questions and system tasks such as setting alarms and opening apps. An air mouse mode lets users swipe the stylus to turn pages during presentations, and the pen supports pinching to open a radial menu, tap feedback and rotation gestures. The GoPaint app offers a 3D oil painting brush, a splatter brush that reacts when the stylus hovers and is tapped twice, a fluid brush that mimics ink and watercolour and an animation feature for frame-by-frame work.

For work, Huawei describes PC-level WPS Office AI that can generate drafts from prompts, adjust tone and turn ideas into presentations, a Notes app with templates, AI speech-to-text that transcribes several speakers and organises notes by speaker, and an AI Tutor that explains the logic behind solutions. The HUAWEI Glide Keyboard is available only in select configurations, with a 399 gram frame and a stylus slot; a Folio Cover is also offered, and the specification page lists a Max Folio Cover in the package.

What the pages do not say

Neither page gives a processor name, a price, a launch date, a display touch sampling rate or an official software update policy. The Wi-Fi standard is described only as 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, and the tablet is not described as having cellular connectivity.

Where it fits

Huawei's tablet competes on thinness and screen with Apple's iPad Air with M3 and Samsung's Galaxy Tab S10+. Another tablet in our list to compare is the Xiaomi Pad 6. The page Huawei MatePad Pro 12-inch versus iPad Air M3 sets out the differences, and more tablets are listed under tablets.
