The Lenovo Tab P12 is a large-screen Android tablet that Lenovo announced on 26 July 2023 as a back-to-school and entertainment device. It has a 12.7-inch 3K display, a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor, quad JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos and a 10,200 mAh battery, and it is designed around two accessories: the Lenovo Tab Pen Plus stylus, which was included in the box in the launch bundles, and a ThinkPad-inspired keyboard with a built-in trackpad. This page is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information from Lenovo's launch announcement. It explains where the tablet sits, what it offers and where it makes trade-offs.
Where it sits in the line-up
Lenovo splits its consumer tablets into letters. The P series is the premium range, and the M series is the mainstream range. Lenovo announced the Tab P12 together with the Tab M10 5G, a smaller 10.61-inch tablet with a Snapdragon 695 chip and 5G connectivity. Within Lenovo's range the Tab P12 targets users who want a big, sharp screen and a pen without paying flagship prices. In the wider Android tablet market it competes with the large-format Fan Edition tablets from Samsung, such as the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+, and the comparison page Lenovo Tab P12 vs Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ sets the key specifications side by side.
Design and build
The tablet measures 293.3 x 190.7 x 6.9 mm without the camera bump and weighs around 615 g, which is heavy enough that most people will use it propped on a table or on a lap. The slim 6.9 mm body and a large rectangular shape make it feel more like a small laptop screen than a handheld slate. Lenovo lists two colours, Storm Grey and Oat. The camera is a single lens in a small round module at the back. A fingerprint sensor is built into the power key, and a USB-C 2.0 port handles charging and data, with a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
The accessory story matters. The keyboard folio snaps onto the tablet and, according to Lenovo, offers keys with 1.5 mm of travel, a gentle 0.2 mm concavity and a 19 mm key pitch, as well as a built-in trackpad and 16 function shortcuts. Together with the kickstand, it turns the tablet into something closer to a two-in-one. The Lenovo Tab Pen Plus is a stylus that Lenovo pairs with the free Nebo and MyScript Calculator 2 apps for note-taking and handwritten calculations, and Lenovo Freestyle can turn the tablet into a wireless drawing pad for a Windows PC.
Display
The screen is a 12.7-inch LTPS LCD with a resolution of 2944 x 1840 pixels, described by Lenovo as 3K, at about 273 pixels per inch with ambient colour support. Lenovo says it offers 50 percent more pixel density than a Full HD panel of the same size, which means sharp text and detailed pictures. The refresh rate is 60Hz, so scrolling is less smooth than on 90Hz or 120Hz tablets, which is a common trade-off at this price. It is an LCD rather than an OLED, so blacks are less deep and contrast is lower than on an OLED screen. Lenovo also lists a reading mode and eye-care features aimed at long study sessions. For students and for people who watch a lot of video, the large screen and sharp resolution will matter more than the lower refresh rate.
Performance, memory and software
The processor is a MediaTek Dimensity 7050, an octa-core chip with two Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. Lenovo lists memory and storage options of 4GB + 128GB, 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB, with expansion through a microSD card slot sold separately. This is a mid-range chip, good for browsing, video, documents and casual games, but not designed for the most demanding 3D titles. The 8GB versions give more headroom when running several apps in split screen.
The tablet launched with Android 13. Lenovo says it expects two OS upgrades and four years of security patches in the field, which is a reasonable but not class-leading support window. Multitasking is a strength of the software: Lenovo lists four apps in split screen and up to five floating windows. The bundle includes the Nebo and MyScript Calculator 2 apps, three months of WPS premium features, the Lenovo NotePad app and, in select markets, a free year of ADP One services. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 are listed, and no cellular option appears in the specification list.
Cameras and audio
Lenovo puts the better camera on the front: a 13MP fixed-focus ultra-wide camera with an RGB sensor, intended for video calls and online classes. The rear camera is a simpler 8MP autofocus lens with an LED flash, useful for scanning documents or whiteboards. Neither will replace a phone camera. The audio setup is a quad JBL speaker system with Dolby Atmos support, a real strength for a tablet at this price, since a large body gives the speakers room to produce a wide sound. A single microphone is listed in the specifications.
Battery and charging
The battery has a capacity of 10,200 mAh, and Lenovo claims up to 10 hours of video playback under optimal laboratory conditions. As the company points out, actual battery performance varies with configuration, usage, software, brightness and wireless use, and the maximum capacity decreases over time. The 60Hz LCD helps keep consumption moderate compared with high-refresh panels. The launch announcement does not state a charging speed for the Tab P12, and the charger and wattage can differ by market, so check the box contents of your version if fast charging matters.
In daily use the accessories decide how the tablet feels. With the keyboard folio attached and the kickstand open, the Tab P12 works for typing essays or emails, and the four-app split-screen limit means a document, a browser, a chat and a note can share one screen. Without the keyboard it is mainly a media and reading device. Lenovo markets the combination at students, and the school-year timing of the launch fits that. Keep in mind that third-party apps decide how well handwriting and split screen work in practice, and that the bundled apps are partly time-limited, such as the three months of WPS premium features.
Who it is for
The Tab P12 suits students and home users who want a large screen for reading, notes and video, and who plan to buy the keyboard and pen. Lenovo's launch pricing in Europe was €499 including the keyboard and Tab Pen Plus and €399 with only the pen included, both including VAT and offered in select markets from July 2023. No US launch price was published in the announcement, so the price field on this page is empty. People who want a cheaper tablet for streaming and browsing do not need this much screen, while those who want a premium AMOLED panel and a faster chip will look further up the range, for instance at an iPad such as the iPad (A16) or at Samsung's Galaxy Tab S series.
Compromises to consider
The main compromises are the 60Hz LCD, the mid-range processor, the modest rear camera and the weight of about 615 g without accessories. Software support is limited to two OS upgrades, and the keyboard and pen may add to the effective price, depending on the bundle. Android tablet apps vary in how well they scale to a big screen. The tablet is also a 2023 model, so it is worth looking at newer alternatives in the rankings and the full list of tablets before deciding.
