The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 is a 13-inch Android tablet that Lenovo positions as a premium study companion. It was announced on March 2, 2026 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and its main features are a large 3.5K display with a 144Hz refresh rate, a quad JBL speaker system, a 6.20 mm body, a 10,200 mAh battery and the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip. Lenovo also describes it as the first tablet to receive the company's Qira assistant experience, which is due later in 2026. This page is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information. It explains where the tablet fits in Lenovo's range, what the hardware offers, and which compromises a thin, student-focused Android tablet involves.

Place in the lineup

Lenovo calls the Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 the leading model of its Idea Tablet series. The company's own wording is that it is aimed at students who want advanced capabilities and a smarter learning experience. In the press announcement, Lenovo gave an estimated starting price of 549 euros for the EMEA region and a March 2026 availability window, and said that prices are estimates that may vary by country, configuration and channel. No US price was stated in the material reviewed, so none is listed here, and the March 2 date on this page is the announcement date rather than a confirmed on-sale date.

Inside the same company, the tablet is easiest to place by comparing it with its siblings. The Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 is the productivity-oriented model, and the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 is the entertainment-first tablet with a nine-speaker audio system and a rotating kickstand. The Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 has a different emphasis again: study, note-taking and reading, with a large display and a stylus and keyboard as options. Outside the Lenovo family, the closest rivals are the iPad Air (M3) and Samsung's Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, which sits in a higher class. The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 vs iPad Air (M3) page shows the numbers side by side.

Design and display

The tablet measures 296.48 x 191.91 mm and is 6.20 mm thick, with a listed weight of about 598 g, which Lenovo describes as under 600 g. That is slim and light for a 13-inch device, although a screen this large will still feel substantial in one hand. Three colours are offered: Luna Grey, Cloud Grey and Jelly Mint. A folio case, a keyboard pack and the Lenovo Tab Pen Plus stylus are supported accessories and are sold separately.

The display is a 13-inch LCD in a 16:10 format with a resolution of 3540 x 2190 pixels, which works out to about 319 pixels per inch. Lenovo lists a 144Hz refresh rate, 99 percent DCI-P3 colour coverage, 600 nits of typical brightness, 800 nits in High Brightness Mode, and Dolby Vision support. The panel is branded PureSight Pro. A matte edition is also offered with a paper-like anti-glare finish that Lenovo says keeps contrast constant, which will suit people who read for long stretches under bright light. The trade-off with any matte coating is a slight loss of sharpness and punch compared with the glossy version, and the panel is an LCD rather than an OLED, so black levels will not match an OLED tablet. Lenovo notes that the actual refresh rate may vary with the app and content.

Four JBL speakers tuned with Dolby Atmos handle audio, which is a step up from the stereo pairs on many study-oriented tablets.

Performance and software

The tablet runs the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (model SM8735P) with an Adreno 825 GPU and a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU. Memory goes up to 12GB and storage up to 512GB, with a microSD slot for expansion. The 8s Gen 4 is a high-end chip but sits one step below the full Snapdragon 8 Elite family, so the tablet should handle multitasking, split-screen work and note-taking with ease, while sustained heavy gaming and video editing are less likely to be its focus.

The operating system is Android 16, with an upgrade path to Android 18 and four years of security patches listed. Lenovo's software emphasis is on an AI-assisted study workflow. The Smarter Reader app and the Lenovo Tab Pen Plus let users select text to generate summaries and explanations, and marked sections are saved to Lenovo Notepad, where AI Notes organises key points. Live transcription records lectures and conversations, and the dedicated Smart Key on the 2-in-1 keyboard pack opens Lenovo Smart AI Input for text generation and translation from natural-language prompts. The Lenovo Qira experience is supposed to arrive later in 2026, so at the time of announcement it was a promise rather than a shipping feature. Support in the first wave covers six languages in nine regions, which means some buyers will not see it at first.

Connectivity lists Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and a USB-C port with USB 5Gbps speeds, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4a output, plus a pogo-pin connector for the keyboard. Face unlock is included. The note on the Wi-Fi 7 listing says that full Wi-Fi 7 speeds need a compatible router.

Beyond the headline hardware, the datasheet lists a few practical details. Face unlock is built in, the sensor set includes an accelerometer, gyroscope, RGB light sensor and Hall sensor, and the box contains the tablet, a USB-C cable, a quick start guide, safety and warranty documents and a microSD tray pin. A charger is not guaranteed in every country. The keyboard pack and pen connect to the tablet through its pogo-pin port and the stylus is supported separately, so the accessories are designed around this specific model rather than generic Bluetooth add-ons.

Camera

The camera setup is modest and tuned for documents rather than photography: a 13MP autofocus rear camera and an 8MP fixed-focus front camera. For a tablet this is normal. The rear camera is useful for scanning pages and whiteboards, and the front camera covers video calls, although a fixed-focus lens will be less sharp at varying distances than an autofocus one. Anyone expecting phone-class image quality from a tablet camera should lower their expectations.

Battery and charging

The battery is rated at 10,200 mAh (typical value) with support for 45W quick charging. Lenovo's materials call it an all-day battery, though it does not publish a specific hours-of-use figure in the announcement. With a bright 144Hz panel and four speakers, real-world endurance will depend on settings, and the high refresh rate can be reduced to extend battery life. Lenovo also notes that in-box charger availability varies by country, so check what is included in the box before buying.

Who it is for and trade-offs

The Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 suits students, readers and anyone who wants a large, thin Android tablet for notes, documents, video and light multitasking, and who values a stylus and keyboard pack as an option. The big, sharp, fast display and the quad-speaker audio are the strongest points, and the slim body makes it practical to carry.

The compromises are clear. It uses an LCD, not an OLED panel. The key AI feature, Qira, is announced for later in 2026 and not available everywhere at first. The stylus and keyboard are separate purchases, which raises the real cost of the full study setup. The processor is strong but not the top of Qualcomm's range, and the cameras are basic. The estimated price is stated only in euros, and availability and configurations differ by market, so check the final specification sheet for your country.
