The vivo Y100 is a 4G Android phone from vivo's Y series, built around a 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a 5,000 mAh battery with 80W wired charging and a Snapdragon 685 chip. The page vivo publishes for the Philippines, which this review draws on, lists a price of 10,999 pesos and two colours, Crystal Black and Breeze Green, the second of which changes colour under ultraviolet light. This site dates the phone to September 2023, but vivo has sold several different models under the Y100 name in different countries, so specifications can differ by market. This page is a specification-and-information review based on the published specifications and manufacturer information, so every battery, durability and speed statement is vivo's own claim from its laboratory tests. It covers where the phone sits in the lineup, design, display, performance and software, camera, battery, who it suits and where it compromises.

Place in the lineup

The Y series is vivo's affordable range, aimed at buyers who want a large screen, a big battery and an eye-catching finish without paying flagship prices. Within that series the Y100 occupies the upper part, since it has an AMOLED display and an unusually quick 80W charger for the class. It is a 4G-only phone built on a mid-low chipset, so it competes on screen, battery and design rather than raw speed or 5G. If you want a point of reference for what a modern mid-range phone offers today, look at the Galaxy A56, and the vivo Y100 vs Galaxy A56 table sets the two side by side. The Pixel 9a page is another useful reference point for a recent mid-range phone.

Design and build

The Y100 is slim at 7.79 mm in Crystal Black and 7.95 mm in Breeze Green, with a size of 163.17 x 75.81 mm. Weight is 186 g in Crystal Black and 196 g in Breeze Green, so the colour matters slightly in the hand. vivo calls it a one-piece 3D flat design, with the camera area kept as a framed "fantasy" module made to look three-dimensional while staying flat.

The standout is Breeze Green. vivo says its Colour Changing Fluorite AG glass shifts to a vibrant green within about three seconds of exposure to ultraviolet light, so the back looks different outdoors than indoors. Crystal Black has a 3D crystal texture. The back cover material is listed as glass film with injection skinning, and vivo says scratch-resistant glass is available only on the Breeze Green edition, with a steel wool test of 8,000 cycles and a 9H pencil hardness result. The phone carries an IP54 rating, which means protection against dust ingress to a limited degree and splashing water, but not immersion, and vivo itself warns that resistance is not permanent and can reduce with daily use. The company lists thousands of mechanical tests, such as 32,000 small drops and 500,000 power button presses, all from its own labs.

Display and audio

The screen is a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel at 2400 x 1080 pixels, about 394 pixels per inch, with a 120Hz refresh option alongside 60Hz. vivo quotes 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage, a screen-to-body ratio of 91.9 percent and an optical fingerprint sensor under the glass. Two different brightness figures appear on the vendor's pages: 1,200 nits in high brightness mode for sunlight use on the overview page, and 1,800 nits local peak brightness in the specification table, which probably refer to different measurement conditions. The company notes that 120Hz may not be supported in every app. An eye-care display mode is included. Audio comes from a dual stereo speaker setup that vivo says reaches 300 percent volume and carries a Hi-Res Audio certification mark on its page, although the specification table lists Hi-Fi as unsupported, so treat the audio claims cautiously.

Performance, memory and software

The Snapdragon 685 is a 6 nm chip with eight cores, four at 2.8GHz and four at 1.9GHz. It is a 4G platform, so the phone has no 5G, and it is enough for messaging, video, social apps and light games but not for demanding 3D titles. The review configuration has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. vivo adds 8GB of extended RAM, created by borrowing storage space through software, which helps keep more apps in memory but does not behave like physical RAM. The company says the phone can keep more than 25 background apps active and claims a 50-month smooth experience in lab testing. Storage can be expanded with a microSD card up to 1TB, though the card shares a slot with the second SIM, so you choose between dual SIM and extra storage. The phone ships with Android 14 and Funtouch OS 14. The specification table does not list NFC or FM radio and gives USB 2.0 for the wired port, which means slow data transfers.

Camera

The rear camera pairs a 50MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 2MP bokeh camera at f/2.4 for depth information, with a flash. There is no ultra-wide or telephoto lens, so the phone covers everyday photography well but not wide scenes or zoom. The front camera is 8MP at f/2.0. The software adds night modes, high-resolution mode, panorama, document scanning, slow motion, time-lapse, a pro mode and Dual-View video, which records with the front and rear cameras at once. vivo also promotes a Bokeh Flare Portrait effect that turns background lights into shapes such as hearts and stars, and Stylish Night Filters named Black and Gold, Cyberpunk, Green Orange and Blue Ice. These are software looks rather than hardware, and the sensors are of a typical entry-level size, so expect acceptable daylight shots and softer low-light results.

Battery and charging

The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000 mAh. vivo states that the standard charger supports up to 80W and that the phone reaches 80 percent in around half an hour, though it notes the actual power changes with conditions and that the data comes from lab tests at 25 degrees Celsius. It also lists 16.6 hours of YouTube streaming. A battery-health promise says the cell is designed to retain 80 percent of its capacity after 1,600 full charge cycles, equal to about four years of use in vivo's simulation. Charging protection features include overnight charging protection and temperature control. A charger of that power is uncommon in this class, so the Y100 is a good fit for people who top up in short bursts.

Who it is for

The Y100 suits buyers who want a large AMOLED screen, long battery life, fast charging and a fashionable, colour-changing finish and who are happy with 4G and a modest camera. It also fits users in markets where microSD expansion and a plain, uncluttered build still matter. To see how it fares against other devices, check the rankings page.

Compromises

The compromises are clear. The phone has only 4G, no NFC, USB 2.0 speeds and a shared SIM and microSD slot. The camera system has no ultra-wide or telephoto lens. The chipset limits heavy gaming and multitasking, and the extended RAM is a software feature. The Breeze Green version is heavier and thicker than Crystal Black. IP54 protection is limited. Finally, because the Y100 name is used for different hardware in different countries, check the exact model and region before comparing prices or specifications.
