The vivo X200 is the standard model of vivo's autumn 2024 flagship family, and it is arguably the most interesting phone in that range for people who find big flagships tiresome. It pairs MediaTek's Dimensity 9400 with a 6.67-inch display, three 50MP rear cameras developed with ZEISS, a 5,800 mAh battery and 90W wired charging, all in a body just under 8 mm thick. This review is based on the published specifications and on vivo's own product material; where vivo makes a performance or endurance claim, it is presented as a claim, because the figures come from the company's laboratory tests.

Where it sits in the lineup

The X200 belongs to a family that also includes the vivo X200 Pro and the vivo X200 FE, and vivo positions it as the compact, balanced all-rounder of the range. Its successor in the numbering is the vivo X300, but the X200 remains a relevant reference point for anyone shopping the previous generation. A key point of the X200 is that it does not shrink the camera ambition: unlike many "regular" flagships that drop to a modest telephoto, vivo keeps a 50MP telephoto here and uses a high-resolution ultrawide as well. For a head-to-head with a rival of similar age, see the vivo X200 vs OnePlus 13 page. Note that the official global page reviewed states no price and no on-sale date, so those are not given here.

Design and display

The phone measures 160.27 x 74.81 x 7.99 mm. Weight depends on the finish: 197 g for Carbon Black, which uses a glass-fibre back, and 202 g for the glass-backed Copper Green, Cobalt Blue and Moonlight White versions. The defining visual element is the large circular camera ring on the back, which vivo calls the Sunburst Ring, with the ZEISS logo at its centre; the edges curve uniformly on all four sides. The phone carries both IP68 and IP69 ratings, which vivo describes as tested for static fresh water at 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes, with the caveat that resistance is not permanent. Biometrics come from an optical fingerprint sensor under the display.

The display is a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a 2800 x 1260 resolution, giving about 460 pixels per inch, and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. vivo quotes 4,500 nits of local peak brightness, 1.07 billion colours, hardware Netflix HDR support and 2160Hz PWM dimming, a high-frequency setting intended to reduce flicker for sensitive eyes. It markets the panel as the ZEISS Master Color Display. Such numbers are manufacturer figures, and local peak brightness is a short burst on a small portion of the screen, not a sustained full-screen level, but together they point to a panel designed for outdoor legibility and comfortable late-night reading.

Performance and software

The chip is MediaTek's Dimensity 9400, built on a 3nm process. It is an octa-core design in an all-big-core layout: one core at up to 3.626GHz, three at 3.3GHz and four at 2.4GHz. vivo states generational gains of 28 percent in CPU performance and 41 percent in Immortalis-G925 GPU performance with lower power consumption, plus an NPU 890 that it rates at 50 tokens per second for on-device AI. These are vivo's laboratory comparisons against previous models and should be read that way. Memory is LPDDR5X and storage is UFS 4.0, offered as 12GB plus 256GB or 16GB plus 512GB. A memory-extension feature can borrow storage as extra RAM (12GB or 16GB), but that is virtual capacity on top of the physical memory, and there is no microSD slot.

The phone ships with Android 15 and Funtouch OS 15. vivo highlights Live Call Translation, AI Transcript Assist and AI Note Assist, along with Gemini Assistant integration, and describes a hardware security chip with secure data purge. Connectivity is broad: 5G across a wide band list, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, an infrared blaster and dual nano-SIM with dual standby. The USB port runs at USB 2.0 speeds, so file transfers are slower than on some rivals. The spec page also lists no hi-fi audio mode and does not mention wireless charging.

Camera

The rear system is the reason to look at the X200. The main camera uses a 50MP sensor (IMX921, 1/1.56-inch, f/1.57, 23mm focal length) with image stabilisation that vivo rates at CIPA 4.5. The ultrawide camera is also 50MP (f/2.0), with a 119-degree field of view. The third camera is a 50MP ZEISS telephoto with a 1/2-inch sensor (IMX882), an f/2.57 aperture and a claimed 100x HyperZoom, plus telephoto macro and stage-mode options. Having three cameras at the same resolution gives a consistent look across focal lengths, which makes it easier to switch between them without colour or exposure jumps. vivo describes focal-length options from 23mm to 100mm, ZEISS T* coating to reduce reflections and ghosting, a Street Photography mode combining textured colour with black and white, and a Super Landscape mode for long exposures. The front camera is a 32MP unit (f/2.0).

As always with phone cameras, the sample images on vivo's website are curated, so the practical question is how the phone handles difficult light and moving subjects, and that is better answered by independent camera tests than by specifications. What the specifications do establish is hardware ambition above the usual compact-flagship norm.

Battery and charging

The battery is a 5,800 mAh single cell (5,695 mAh rated) in a silicon-anode design that vivo calls BlueVolt, and it supports 90W wired FlashCharge with the charger included in the box. vivo claims 17.7 hours of continuous video playback and 9 hours of continuous gaming in its tests, and describes semi-solid technology intended to keep the phone working at temperatures down to minus 20 degrees Celsius. A 5,800 mAh capacity is large for a phone under 8 mm thick, and it should deliver strong endurance for most users. Fast 90W charging is the other half of the story, shortening top-ups considerably, although the actual charging rate varies with temperature and usage.

Who it is for

The X200 suits people who want flagship-class camera hardware and a big battery without carrying the heftiest phone on the market. It is a good fit for travel and street photographers who value a telephoto lens, for heavy users who prefer a phone that lasts a long day, and for anyone who simply likes a comfortable, well-balanced device. Buyers who want to see how it differs from its siblings can compare it with the X200 Pro on the vivo X200 vs vivo X200 Pro page. You can place it among other devices in the rankings.

Compromises to weigh

Weighed together, those drawbacks are modest next to what the X200 offers. A fast current-generation chip, a bright high-resolution display, a triple 50MP camera system and a large fast-charging battery add up to a compact flagship with few obvious gaps, and it is the version of the X200 range most likely to please people who want one well-rounded phone rather than a spec-sheet record.
