The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is Samsung's first tri-fold phone, with two hinges, opening from a 6.5-inch cover screen into a 10-inch tablet-sized display. It arrived in December 2025 as a limited-run product, and Samsung's US page lists it as sold out. This page is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information. It explains where the device sits among Samsung's foldables, how the two-hinge design is described, what hardware is inside and which trade-offs come with such a radical form factor.
Where the TriFold sits
Until now Samsung's foldables came in two shapes: the clamshell Flip series and the book-style Fold series. The TriFold adds a third. Rather than one hinge, it uses two, so that two outer panels fold in over the middle one like a letter. Folded, it behaves like a thick, tall phone with a 6.5-inch cover screen. Unfolded, it gives a 10-inch main screen that Samsung compares to a tablet and positions for multitasking and productivity. The nearest relatives are the book-style Galaxy Z Fold7, and the Galaxy Z Flip7 sits at the compact end. A direct comparison of the two big-screen foldables is on the Galaxy Z TriFold vs Galaxy Z Fold7 page. The Samsung US store lists the model at 2,899 US dollars for the 512GB unlocked version, though the listing shows it as out of stock because of the limited run.
Design, hinges and durability
The dimensions give a sense of the engineering. Unfolded, the phone measures 159.2 x 214.1 mm and is 3.9 mm thick at its thinnest, with 4.2 mm at the centre section and 4.0 mm at the side with the buttons. Folded, it measures 159.2 x 75.0 x 12.9 mm. The weight is 309 g. That is noticeably heavier than a regular large phone, which is the cost of three panels, two hinges and a 10-inch display. Samsung says the main screen has thin bezels and minimised creasing.
Samsung lists an IP48 rating. The first digit refers to protection against solid objects larger than 1mm, and the second to immersion in fresh water at 1.5 metres for 30 minutes in laboratory tests. This means the phone is water-resistant but not dust-sealed in the way an IP68 phone is, a limitation shared by many foldables. As with any foldable, long-term durability of the hinges and the inner screens is something that only time and independent testing can confirm.
Displays
The TriFold has two screens, and both use Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology. The main screen measures 10 inches corner to corner, with a resolution of 2160 x 1584 pixels (QXGA+) and a peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits. Samsung specifies refresh rates of up to 120Hz for this screen. The cover screen is 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 (FHD+) and a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. The pages reviewed do not state a refresh rate for the cover screen, so none is assumed here. The 10-inch screen can be used in landscape, and Samsung also points out that it can be turned vertically for an aspect ratio similar to an A4 page, which suits documents and reading. The cover screen has a wide aspect ratio intended to make typing and scrolling familiar.
Performance and software
Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, an octa-core chip with cores listed at up to 4.47GHz. The Korean specification page lists 16GB of RAM with 512GB of storage for the version it covers, of which 482.4GB is available to the user, and the US page lists the 512GB unlocked model. The phone runs One UI 8. Samsung stresses multitasking: the large screen can show several apps side by side, and the company highlights Samsung DeX for a desktop-style experience, as well as Gemini Live for conversational assistance. Samsung also states security update support until 31 December 2032 on its Korean page, which is a long commitment, though it is worth confirming the policy for the country you buy in.
Connectivity is modern: Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) on the 2.4, 5 and 6GHz bands, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and ultra-wideband, plus a USB Type-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 1 speed. The phone supports a SIM and an eSIM or two eSIMs. A stylus is not supported on this model.
Cameras
The rear system is a triple camera with a 200MP wide camera (f/1.7), a 12MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.2) and a 10MP telephoto camera (f/2.4) with 3x optical zoom. Samsung also lists 2x zoom at optical quality using the adaptive pixel sensor and up to 30x digital zoom, and 8K video recording at 30 frames per second. There are two selfie cameras, both with 10MP and an f/2.2 aperture, one on the cover screen and one on the main screen, the latter with a 100 degree field of view. Samsung notes that the 200MP resolution applies to the wide camera only. This is a well-specified camera set, though the telephoto is less ambitious than the periscope lenses on some slab phones. For comparison, the Galaxy S26 remains the more conventional way to get a premium Samsung camera.
Battery and charging
Samsung lists a 5,600 mAh typical battery capacity, with a rated capacity of 5,437 mAh, and quotes up to 17 hours of video playback. The US page says that a 45W power adapter is included and enables fast charging. Powering a 10-inch screen and a 6.5-inch cover screen from a single battery is a big job, and the actual endurance will depend heavily on how much time is spent on the large display. Wireless charging is not mentioned in the specifications reviewed, so it should not be assumed.
Who it is for and the compromises
The TriFold is aimed at enthusiasts and professionals who want a pocketable device that unfolds into a tablet-sized workspace for documents, video editing previews, multitasking and media. The compromises are clear. The price is high, availability is restricted to a limited run, the phone is thick when folded and heavy at 309 g, and the dust protection (IP48) is not as complete as that of ordinary flagship phones. Foldables also tend to show some crease and require careful handling. The battery is moderate for the amount of screen it has to feed. Anyone who only wants a larger screen than a normal phone will find the book-style Fold series far simpler, and those who care most about the best possible photography can find more specialised cameras elsewhere. The rankings page helps put the TriFold next to other premium devices, but for most buyers it is best seen as a showcase of what a three-panel design can do rather than a mainstream choice.
