The Huawei Watch GT 4 is a round, stainless-steel smartwatch that Huawei introduced in September 2023 in two sizes: a 46 mm model with an octagonal bezel and a 41 mm model with a slimmer, jewellery-style case. Both use AMOLED screens, track health and workouts with Huawei's TruSeen 5.5+ sensor system and work with Android and iOS phones, and both are built around long battery life, which Huawei quotes as up to 14 days for the larger watch and 7 days for the smaller one. This page is a review based on the published specifications and manufacturer information. It explains how the two versions differ, what Huawei claims, and which compromises matter when comparing the watch with rivals from other brands.
Where it sits in the lineup
The GT series is Huawei's round, long-battery fitness-and-style smartwatch line. The GT 4 is an earlier generation, and its successors include the Huawei Watch GT 6; a direct table is available at Huawei Watch GT 4 vs Huawei Watch GT 6. If you prefer a rectangular screen and a lighter body, the Huawei Watch Fit 4 is the sibling to consider. Outside Huawei's range, the closest competitors on features and battery life are the Garmin Vivoactive 5 and, for those living in Samsung's or Apple's ecosystems, the Galaxy Watch7 and the Apple Watch Series 10. The date shown here, 14 September 2023, is the announcement date; availability and pricing varied by country, and no US list price is shown here because the pages reviewed give none.
Two sizes, two characters
The 46 mm model measures 46 x 46 x 10.9 mm, weighs about 48 g without a strap and fits wrists of 140 to 210 mm. Its octagonal design has a dual-time-zone bezel, and the straps offered include black fluoroelastomer, grey stainless steel, a green woven composite strap and brown leather. The 41 mm model measures 41.3 x 41.3 x 9.8 mm, weighs about 37 g and fits wrists from 120 to 190 mm; it has a golden ring bezel and comes with green or black fluoroelastomer, a light gold Milanese mesh, a silver stainless steel strap or white leather. Both cases are stainless steel. The shape of each model is a matter of taste, but the smaller watch will suit slimmer wrists much better, and the larger one has a clear advantage in battery life.
Display
The larger watch has a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen and the smaller one a 1.32-inch AMOLED screen, both at 466 x 466 pixels, giving 326 and 352 pixels per inch. Huawei says the thin bezel raises the screen-to-body ratio by 13 percent compared with the previous generation, and that the screen can be used with Always On Display watch faces. The brand lists more than 25,000 watch faces, including a Blooming face that flowers as your daily activity grows, and tools to create custom faces and widgets. Huawei does not publish a brightness figure on the pages reviewed here.
Workouts and tracking
Huawei lists more than 100 workout modes, adding football, basketball and padel to walking, running, cycling and swimming, with real-time data and voice guidance while running. The Activity Rings 2.0 system sets daily Move, Exercise and Stand goals and awards a medal when all three rings are closed. A new Stay Fit app, based on TruSeen 5.5+, shows calorie intake, active calories, resting calories and calorie deficit. For outdoor activity, Huawei states that a smart satellite antenna array boosts GNSS accuracy on the 46 mm watch by 30 percent in laboratory comparison with the Watch GT 3 42 mm, and a positioning algorithm becomes more accurate the more often you run the same route; the 41 mm model is not included in that claim. The sensors are an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, optical heart-rate sensor, barometer and temperature sensor, and navigation features such as a route screen are shown on the product pages.
Health monitoring
Huawei's TruSeen 5.5+ system tracks heart rate, blood oxygen (SpO2), sleep and stress. For workouts, the company says it uses eight photoelectric sensors, two groups of light sources, an improved AI algorithm and a curved glass lens to improve accuracy in strenuous exercise, and that heart-rate monitoring also holds up in cold weather. The watch can send timely alerts about possible atrial fibrillation and premature-beat risk through pulse wave arrhythmia analysis using the PPG sensor, a feature that depends on the country, and TruSleep 3.0 monitors sleep and detects abnormal breathing during sleep, also subject to country support. Women's health tracking estimates period, ovulation and fertile windows. A stress monitor offers breathing exercises. These are wellness features rather than medical diagnoses, and the pulse wave analysis in particular should be treated as an alert to discuss with a doctor, not a result.
Smart features
You can answer or reject calls over Bluetooth from the watch, send quick replies, read SMS messages with preset answers and emoji, and check calendar entries. The watch supports independent music playback, with playlists set in the phone app and matched to specific workouts, so you can leave the phone behind. NFC is supported. Huawei says the watch works with both Android 8.0 or later and iOS 13.0 or later, though some features depend on the phone and on a companion app, and the availability of services differs by region.
Battery and charging
This is the watch's strongest argument. For the 46 mm model Huawei quotes 14 days at maximum usage, 8 days at regular usage and 4 days with Always On Display enabled; the 41 mm model gets 7, 4 and 2 days respectively. The figures come from Huawei laboratory tests with defined usage patterns, such as 30 minutes of Bluetooth calling and 90 minutes of GPS workouts per week for the maximum figure, and they will vary with your habits. Charging is wireless through the included cradle, which needs a 5V-9V, 2A source.
Durability and support
The watch is rated 5 ATM under ISO 22810:2010, suitable for swimming in a pool or the sea but not for diving or high-speed water sports, and the operating temperature range is -20 to +45 degrees Celsius. Bluetooth 5.2 is supported. One detail worth reading is the software support: Huawei lists a defined support period of two years, until 18 March 2026, during which security updates are guaranteed. At the time of writing that period has passed, so buyers of a new or used unit should check what updates Huawei provides today.
Who it is for
The GT 4 suits people who want a classic-looking watch with a long battery life, broad workout coverage and no need for a larger app ecosystem. The 46 mm version is the endurance choice, and the 41 mm version is the better fit for slim wrists or for those who prefer a gold or white-strap look. It is a good match for walkers, runners and gym users who want to track activity and sleep for a week or more between charges.
Compromises
- Huawei's product pages describe no third-party app ecosystem comparable with those of Apple, Samsung or Google.
- The listed software support period ended in March 2026.
- Features such as arrhythmia analysis and sleep breathing awareness depend on the country.
- Battery claims come from laboratory conditions and fall sharply with Always On Display.
- No price is published here, and availability varies by region.
Overall, the GT 4 is a well-featured, long-lasting fitness watch whose main weaknesses are the limited ecosystem and the age of its software support commitment.
