The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is a rugged adventure smartwatch from Zepp Health's Amazfit brand. It was unveiled at the IFA trade show in Berlin on 6 September 2024 and put on sale straight away. The headline features are a 1.5-inch AMOLED screen that Amazfit says reaches 2,000 nits, a 316L stainless steel bezel, 10 ATM water resistance, dual-band satellite positioning with free offline maps, and a battery rated at up to 27 days of typical use. This page is a specification-and-information review based on the published specifications and manufacturer information. It places the watch in Amazfit's range, goes through the build and the software, and lists the trade-offs.

Place in the Amazfit range

The T-Rex line is Amazfit's tough outdoor family, sitting apart from the slimmer Balance and Active models aimed at everyday wear. The T-Rex 3 is the successor to the T-Rex 2 and, according to Amazfit's launch announcement, its AMOLED display is 16 percent larger and twice as bright as the previous generation, while the case moved to a stainless steel bezel. The line has since grown: the Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro adds a titanium bezel and two case sizes, and the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2 is another model in the same adventure family. Amazfit's launch announcement gave a starting price of 279.99 US dollars or 299.90 euros, with the note that prices vary by location. For a spec-by-spec look against a premium rival, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 vs Garmin Fenix 8 page lines up the numbers, and the full list of watches is on the rankings page.

What changed from the previous generation

Amazfit's announcement lists the main upgrades in four groups. The design group is the larger and brighter AMOLED display and the stainless steel bezel. The software group is free offline maps and contour maps with turn directions, plus extra health readouts such as readiness and heart rate variability. The sports group is the new Hyrox race mode, freediving, ultramarathon and an upgraded strength mode. The last group is privacy, with the choice of where GPS data is stored. Taken together, the T-Rex 3 is less a redesign than a refinement that adds a brighter screen and a richer navigation toolkit to the earlier watch's toughness and endurance.

Build and durability

The case measures 48.5 x 48.5 x 13.75 mm without the heart-rate sensor base and the watch weighs 68.3 g without the strap. The body combines a stainless steel bezel with a polymer middle frame, there are four buttons, and the 22 mm strap is liquid silicone with a classic pin buckle. Amazfit describes the construction as military-grade and lists resistance to 70 degrees Celsius heat and -30 degrees Celsius cold, but those claims come with test conditions in the manufacturer's footnotes, so treat them as the maker's own figures. Water resistance is 10 ATM, and the watch body and standard strap are certified for freediving down to 45 metres under the EN13319, ISO 6425 and GB/T 18828 standards. The colours are Onyx, Lava and Haze Gray. Amazfit includes a strap-changing kit in the box.

Display

The screen is a 1.5-inch AMOLED panel with 480 x 480 pixels at 322 pixels per inch, covered by Gorilla Glass. Amazfit says it can reach a peak of 2,000 nits. A night display option shows data in red, green or orange, and a Glove Mode keeps the touchscreen responsive through gloves up to 2 mm thick. With four physical buttons you can also control the watch without touching the screen, which helps in rain or cold.

Navigation and outdoor tools

The T-Rex 3 supports dual-band positioning with six satellite systems. Amazfit's page lists free offline maps with rich terrain and road data, topographic contour maps, ski maps covering a large number of resorts with lift and slope guidance, turn-by-turn navigation with off-route alerts and voice prompts through Bluetooth earphones, and race-route markers such as checkpoints and aid stations. Environmental tools include a compass, barometric air pressure, altitude readout, altitude SpO2 reminders, storm alerts, sun and moon times and tide information. The sensor package is the BioTracker 6.0 PPG sensor for heart rate and blood oxygen, plus an accelerometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor, barometric altimeter, ambient light sensor and temperature sensor.

Training and software

The launch announcement says the watch has over 170 workout modes, including a new Hyrox race mode, freediving, ultramarathon and an upgraded strength training mode where you build templates in the Zepp app and sync them to the watch. Amazfit's page later lists 177 sports modes and automatic recognition of 25 strength-training movements, along with the Zepp Coach plan builder, a Track Run mode, a virtual pacer and support for external heart-rate belts and power meters. The watch launched with Zepp OS 4, which Amazfit presented as the first smartwatch operating system with fully integrated AI, including an assistant based on OpenAI's GPT-4o. Zepp Pay supports contactless payments through NFC in selected countries; the announcement mentions 31 countries across Europe. The watch connects to the Zepp app on Android 7.0 or later and iOS 14.0 or later, and it works with the company's Helio Ring for recovery data.

Privacy options are a notable extra: you can choose permanent cloud storage of GPS data, temporary storage, no upload at all, or turn GPS permissions off, and several backup methods are supported.

Battery and charging

The battery has a rated capacity of 700 mAh and charges on a magnetic base in about 3 hours. Amazfit's official battery figures are up to 27 days in typical use, up to 13 days in heavy use, up to 40 days in battery saver mode, and up to 81 days in clock mode. With GPS on, the page lists up to 42 hours in accurate GNSS mode, up to 72 hours in power-saving GNSS mode, up to 114 hours in long battery life mode and up to 180 hours in maximum battery life mode. In low temperature mode with GNSS on the figure is up to 28 hours. These are manufacturer figures, and map use, always-on display, notifications and Bluetooth calls reduce them. The charging cable is not included in the box, only the magnetic base, so you plug in your own USB Type-C cable.

Who it suits

The T-Rex 3 is a fit for hikers, trail runners and people who spend long days outdoors and want maps, battery life and a screen that is easy to read. Gym users also get something from the strength-training templates and automatic movement recognition. It is chunky, though, so slim wrists and formal dress are better served by a lighter watch.
