Where the standard Spark 40 competes on battery and price, the Tecno Spark 40 Pro competes on how the front of the phone looks and feels. It pairs a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen running at up to 144Hz with a body only 6.69 mm thick and weighing 170 g, then fills in the rest of the specification with a MediaTek Helio G100, a 5200 mAh battery and 45W charging. This overview draws on the published specifications and the manufacturer's product information. It explains the numbers, notes where Tecno's wording needs care and says who the phone makes sense for.

Position in the Spark 40 range

Tecno's site shows the Spark 40 Pro in a family with the Spark 40, a Spark 40 Pro+, a Spark 40c and a 5G model. The Pro sits directly above the regular Spark 40, and the practical differences are a sharper AMOLED panel, a faster 144Hz refresh rate, a newer processor on a 6nm process and a lighter, thinner body. The comparison with the Spark 40 lays these differences out side by side. No launch date or price appears on Tecno's product page, so neither is quoted here.

Outside Tecno's own range, the closest rivals for shoppers on a modest budget include the HONOR X7d and the Infinix Hot 60 Pro, so it is worth reading their pages next to this one.

Display: the main reason to choose the Pro

The screen is a 6.78-inch AMOLED with a stated resolution of 2720 by 1224 pixels, which Tecno labels 1.5K, and a 144Hz refresh rate. The company lists a 2160Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate, a peak brightness of 4500 nits and a high-brightness-mode level of 1600 nits, plus Pro XDR branding, a hardware-based low blue light certification and Wet Touch for use with damp fingers.

Two footnotes matter. First, Tecno states that the 1.5K picture is upscaled by a dedicated "T1" chip, and that the native output resolution of the graphics processor is 1080p. In other words, apps and games render at 1080p and are stretched to the panel, so you gain smoothness of edges but not the extra detail that real 1.5K rendering would give. Second, peak-brightness figures such as 4500 nits are normally reached only briefly and under specific conditions, and the 1600 nit high-brightness-mode figure is the more useful number for outdoor viewing. AMOLED itself brings deeper blacks and stronger contrast than the LCD panels common at this price, and 144Hz is rare in this class.

Design and build

The body is 6.69 mm thick and 170 g, a combination that stands out in a class where many handsets carry batteries of 5000 mAh or more at 8 mm or above. Tecno describes a simple metal triple-camera module with a small vertical edge, so the camera area blends into the body, and the official pictures show three lens rings stacked vertically on the left of the back. There are four colours: Bamboo Green, Ink Black, Lake Blue and Moon Titanium, a low-saturation silver grey.

For protection, the phone is rated IP64 for dust and splashes and carries a 1.5 metre drop resistance claim. The cover glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, which Tecno says offers twice the resistance to falls, shocks and scratches of Gorilla Glass 5, a comparison with an older generation rather than with current glass. As with every IP64 rating, immersion is not covered.

Performance and memory

The MediaTek Helio G100 is built on TSMC's 6nm process and has an octa-core CPU, with an Arm Mali-G57 MC2 graphics processor whose clock goes up to 1.0GHz. Tecno says the chip brings smoother response and faster multitasking, supports 60 frames per second in PUBG and connects to 4.5G networks. No benchmark scores are published, and the G100 is a mid-range budget design, so expect comfortable everyday use and playable but not top-level gaming.

Memory is presented as up to 256GB of storage plus 16GB of RAM, of which 8GB is extended RAM. Because the 16GB figure includes the extended portion, the physical amount of memory is not stated separately, and the extension borrows from storage. Tecno also promises that a TDV-certified test shows lag-free use for five years, a claim about smoothness under the certifier's method and not a pledge about software updates. The page does not give the Android or HiOS version.

A practical word on the upscaling: on a screen of this size the gap between native 1080p and 1.5K is small at a normal viewing distance, while the higher refresh rate is noticed at once. Anyone who mostly scrolls, watches video and writes messages will barely notice the trade-off. Someone who reads fine print at small sizes should expect a softer picture than on phones that render natively at a higher resolution.

Camera

The product page highlights a 50MP main camera with AI RAW-domain processing and mentions no other lens specification. Software tools sit on top: AI Eraser 2.0, which removes unwanted people by circling or by voice instruction, an AI Image Extender that widens a photo by 10 to 40 percent with generated detail, and AI Sharpness Plus, which adjusts tones by zone. These are post-capture edits and say little about how good the sensor is. Independent samples would be needed to judge low-light quality, and the page gives no selfie camera or video details.

Battery, charging and connectivity

The 5200 mAh battery is rated by Tecno for more than 2,000 cycles, with over 80 percent capacity said to remain after five years. Wired charging runs at 45W, and Tecno states 55 minutes to full. The phone also supports 10W wired reverse charging, so it can top up accessories by cable, and a bypass-charging mode. Connectivity extras include two Wi-Fi antennas with Super WiFi 2.0, GPS 2.0 for more stable positioning, FreeLink for calls without signal within about 500 metres in open space, and NFC, which many cheaper phones lack. Dual speakers with Dolby Atmos and an infrared remote complete the list.

Software features

Tecno's AI package includes AI call noise cancellation, Ask Ella, AI Writing and Circle to Search from Google, which lets you draw around an item on screen to search for it. The AI items are marketed as part of the phone's value, but they depend on cloud services in several cases, so availability and behaviour may differ by country.

Who it suits

Compromises

The 1.5K picture is upscaled, the chip is of a mid-range budget level, the physical RAM is unstated, and there is no information on the lenses beyond the main camera or on the software version. To see how the rest of the market handles these trade-offs, check the rankings, or compare it directly with an established mid-range phone in the Galaxy A56 comparison. For buyers who want a lighter wallet, the POCO C71 shows how far a very basic phone falls behind, and the Tecno Pova 7 is the same company's gaming-oriented option.
