The Tecno Camon 40 Pro is the more ambitious of the two 4G phones in Tecno's Camon 40 family. It combines a curved 6.78-inch AMOLED screen at 120Hz, a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation and a 5200 mAh battery with 45W charging, then adds an unusually strong set of protection claims: IP68 and IP69 ratings plus Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on the front. This overview is based on the published specifications and the manufacturer's product information, and it tries to separate what the numbers establish from what Tecno's marketing only suggests.

Where it sits in the Camon 40 family

Tecno's product page places the Camon 40 Pro in a group with the plain Camon 40, a Camon 40 Pro 5G and a Camon 40 Premier 5G. This article covers only the 4G Camon 40 Pro, which uses the MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate. The 5G models are different phones with different chips and should not be confused with it. Compared with the standard Camon 40, the Pro adds a curved screen, a higher water-protection class, a 50MP selfie camera in place of a 32MP one, and a single storage option listed at 256GB, while the headline processor, the screen resolution and the battery stay the same. A side-by-side comparison with the Camon 40 shows how small the gap is on paper.

Tecno's page carries no release date and no price, so neither is quoted here. The date stored for this phone is a placeholder, not an official on-sale date.

Design and durability

The Camon 40 Pro measures 164.44 x 74.32 x 7.31 mm. Tecno describes the shape as inspired by the neck of a swan, which in practice means a soft S-shaped transition on the back panel between two finishes, with three metal-ringed lenses stacked vertically beside a flash. Four colours are listed: Galaxy Black, Emerald Lake Green, Glacier White and Sandy Titanium. The press images show a glossy, slightly marbled finish on the lighter colours and a darker, textured look on the black version.

The durability list is where this model separates itself from most phones at its class. Tecno quotes IP68 dust and water protection, meaning immersion beyond two metres according to the company, and IP69, which concerns hot high-pressure water jets. Both ratings were tested by SGS under the IEC 60529 standard, and Tecno adds the usual warning that the phone is not a professional waterproof device, that protection can fade with wear, and that liquid damage is not covered by the warranty. The front glass is Gorilla Glass 7i, which Tecno says survives a 1.5 metre drop onto asphalt and offers twice the scratch resistance. The body also carries an SGS five-star drop-resistance certificate and, according to Tecno, a structure that is 20 percent stronger overall.

Display

The 6.78-inch AMOLED panel has a 1080 x 2436 resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The edges curve, and Tecno says the screen-to-body ratio reaches 94 percent with very thin side bezels. A curved screen looks premium and makes the phone feel narrower, though it can also trigger accidental touches near the edges and makes some screen protectors harder to fit. Tecno also promotes an XDR mode that it says lifts highlights and colour depth. The product page gives no peak brightness figure, so outdoor visibility cannot be judged from the sheet alone.

A single physical button on the side, called the One-Tap Button, is part of the display experience in a roundabout way. A double press launches the FlashSnap camera mode, and a long press calls up Ella, Tecno's AI assistant.

Performance, memory and cooling

The Helio G100 Ultimate is an octa-core chip that, according to Tecno, pairs Cortex-A76 and A55 cores with an Arm Mali-G57 MC2 graphics unit. Tecno calls it a good choice for a 4G flagship, which is generous wording for a mid-range part. In plain terms, expect comfortable daily use and casual gaming, not the sustained output of a Snapdragon 7-series or Dimensity 8000-series phone.

The memory line reads 256GB of storage plus 16GB of RAM, but the footnote clarifies that this is 8GB of physical RAM and 8GB of extended RAM borrowed from storage. Extended memory can help keep more apps in the background, yet it is slower than real RAM, so treat the phone as an 8GB device. The software side includes Android 15 and a dual-system feature that lets two separate profiles open with different passwords.

Tecno stresses thermal design: an eleven-layer heat-dissipation stack, a phase-change plate larger than 3,195 square millimetres and a graphite layer. It also describes a waist antenna that it says raises Wi-Fi strength by 30 percent when the phone is held sideways, and a navigation feature tuned for ride-hailing apps. All of these are manufacturer claims, supported here only by Tecno's own wording. Connectivity listed on the spec sheet covers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM radio, GPS, NFC, USB-C with OTG and an infrared remote control. The network list shows 2G, 3G and 4G only, so there is no 5G on this particular model.

Camera

The main sensor is a 50MP Sony LYT-700C with a 1/1.56-inch size, 2.0 micrometre fused pixels and optical stabilisation. Beside it sits an 8MP ultrawide camera, and the flash is a dual unit with a flicker sensor. Tecno says the ultrawide uses edge-distortion correction for group photos. A multi-focal portrait mode offers 24 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm equivalent framings, and the camera app includes AutoSnap and BestMoment capture. In the FlashSnap mode, Tecno explains, the phone caches 15 frames per second and picks the best one with software.

For selfies there is a 50MP front camera with autofocus, eye tracking and a 91.6-degree field of view. Autofocus on the front camera is uncommon in this segment and is helpful for close-range shots and group selfies at arm's length. Video specifications are not given on the page, so recording resolution and frame rates remain unknown.

AI tools in the gallery include an eraser, an image extender that can widen a frame by 10 to 40 percent, face-sharpening and portrait editing. They rely on cloud models for some tasks, so they need a connection and are not guaranteed to be available in every country.

Battery and charging

The 5200 mAh cell is paired with 45W wired charging. Tecno says the phone reaches 50 percent in 23 minutes and a full charge in 43 minutes, with 11.5 hours of continuous video playback in its own laboratory conditions. It also claims more than 1,800 charge cycles and more than 80 percent retained capacity after five years, and a TUV SUD certificate for a 60-month lag-free experience. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements, and the company reminds buyers that charging speed depends on the charger, the cable and the temperature. Wireless charging is not mentioned.

Who it is for

The Camon 40 Pro suits buyers who want a phone that looks distinctive, survives splashes and drops, and takes decent photos without paying for a 5G flagship. It also fits people in markets where Tecno is sold through local retailers and where 4G remains the everyday network. If you want 5G, look at the Camon 40 Pro 5G instead. Compromises to weigh

Taken together, the Camon 40 Pro is a design-led 4G phone with unusually strong protection claims and a capable stabilised camera. Its value depends on local pricing, which this article cannot supply.
