The OnePlus Nord CE5 is the battery-first member of OnePlus's 2025 Nord family. It combines a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Apex chip, a 6.77-inch 120 Hz AMOLED display and a 7,100 mAh battery that OnePlus describes as its biggest ever, with 80W wired charging and a microSD card slot. OnePlus introduced it at its Summer Launch Event on 8 July 2025. That is the date used here, because the official pages consulted state no separate on-sale date. This review is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information, and the performance and endurance numbers that come from OnePlus's own test laboratory are treated as manufacturer claims, not independent measurements.

Where it fits in the lineup

The CE series sits at the value end of OnePlus's range, below the Nord models and well below the numbered flagships such as the OnePlus 13. It launched on the same day as the OnePlus Nord 5, which sits a tier higher and offers a faster Snapdragon chip, a sharper 144 Hz screen and a 50 MP selfie camera. The CE5 answers with a bigger battery, expandable storage and a lower place in the range. Its follow-up, the OnePlus Nord CE6, can be lined up against it in the Nord CE5 vs Nord CE6 comparison. The specification sheet lists 8 GB of RAM with either 128 GB or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, in two colours: Marble Mist and Black Infinity. One oddity is worth flagging: the specification sheet shows only 8 GB of RAM, but a footnote about the benchmark refers to a 12 GB variant, which suggests that other markets may receive different memory options.

Design and build

The phone measures 163.58 x 76.02 mm and is 8.27 mm thick in Marble Mist and 8.17 mm in Black Infinity. The weight is approximately 199 g, and OnePlus adds that the pre-applied screen protector can add about 3 g. The company calls the design sleek and slim, with smooth curves and a borderless front, and the screen-to-body ratio is listed at 94.1 percent. Two points are worth noting for buyers: the specification sheet gives no ingress-protection rating, so water and dust resistance should not be assumed, and the audio hardware is a single bottom-firing speaker rather than a stereo pair. OnePlus compensates with an Ultra Volume Mode that it says raises external audio by up to 300 percent. An in-display optical fingerprint sensor and an infrared remote control are included.

Display

The 6.77-inch AMOLED panel has a resolution of 2392 x 1080 pixels (387 ppi), a 19.9:9 aspect ratio and a 120 Hz refresh rate. OnePlus lists typical brightness of 800 nits, 1,300 nits in high-brightness mode and 1,430 nits at peak, with 10-bit colour, support for sRGB and Display P3, and HDR10+ playback. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video HD and HDR certification are listed. Touch sampling is quoted at up to 300 Hz via a later update, with 120 Hz as the default, which is more modest than the figures on the higher-tier Nord 5. Aqua Touch is supported, so the screen is meant to respond with wet or oily fingers, and the usual eye-comfort, night mode and colour-temperature options are present. For a phone at this level, a 120 Hz AMOLED panel is a solid base for everyday use, although the lower resolution is visible next to the 1.5K panels on the Nord 5 and Nord 6.

Performance and software

The MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Apex has an eight-core CPU with one Cortex-A715 core at up to 3.35 GHz, three more A715 cores at 3.2 GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores at 2.2 GHz, together with an Arm Mali-G615 MC6 GPU. It is paired with 8 GB of LPDDR5X memory and UFS 3.1 storage. Virtual RAM expansion can add 4, 6 or 8 GB by borrowing storage space, which helps keep apps resident but is slower than physical memory. The cooling system is a graphene vapour chamber with a 7,041 mm2 cooling area. OnePlus claims up to 120 fps in BGMI and Call of Duty Mobile with its Pro Gamer mode and Adaptive Frame Booster enabled, and an AnTuTu score of 1,474,030, measured in performance mode on a 12 GB unit in its own lab. That figure is a best-case marketing result, not an everyday number. Expandable storage via a hybrid slot accepts a microSD card of up to 1 TB, but the slot is shared with the second SIM, so you must choose between two SIMs or one SIM plus a card.

The software is OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15. OnePlus states that the phone is eligible for at least four Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates from launch, and the system has a TUV SUD A rating for a 72-month fluency test. Features include Open Canvas split-screen multitasking, AI Writer, AI Perfect Shot, AI Unblur, AI Eraser, AI Reflection Remover, AI Reframe, Google Gemini integration and an AI Search that OnePlus says is English-only at launch.

Camera

The rear system uses two cameras. The main camera is a 50 MP Sony LYT-600 sensor (1/1.95 inch, 0.8 micron pixels) with an f/1.8 aperture, a 26 mm equivalent focal length, a 79 degree field of view, phase-detection and contrast autofocus, and both optical and electronic stabilisation. The second is an 8 MP OmniVision ultra-wide with a 112 degree field of view, an f/2.2 aperture and a fixed focus. There is no telephoto lens, and zoom is digital from 0.6x to 20x for photos. Rear video reaches 4K at 60 fps, with slow-motion modes of up to 960 fps at 720p. The front camera is a 16 MP Sony IMX480 with an f/2.4 aperture and fixed focus, recording up to 1080p at 60 fps. In practice the camera set is a basic one, but OnePlus says the main sensor uses the same RAW HDR algorithm as its flagship series and supports Ultra HDR motion photos.

Battery and charging

The 7,100 mAh lithium-ion polymer battery is the headline. OnePlus says it is the company's biggest battery ever and that it is graphene-reinforced. With 80W SUPERVOOC wired charging, the page quotes test-lab results of more than two days of power under a usage pattern of about 6.1 hours of screen time, more than 27 hours of YouTube, 9 hours of AAA gaming and, according to a footnote, a ten-minute charge giving over six hours of YouTube. Bypass charging lets the phone draw power directly from the adapter during long gaming sessions, and a Battery Health Engine is said to keep more than 80 percent of capacity after four years of daily charging. The list of box contents names a USB Type-A to Type-C cable but no charger, so the 80W adapter may need to be bought separately.

Connectivity

The phone supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 with SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, LDAC and LHDC 5.0, NFC and single-band satellite positioning (GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Galileo and QZSS). The USB port is USB 2.0 Type-C, so wired data transfer and video output are limited.

Who it is for

The Nord CE5 suits people who value endurance above all, such as commuters, students and travellers who want a phone that survives a long day, and who like the option of adding a memory card. Casual and mid-level gamers also get a capable chip with proper cooling.
