The Infinix GT 20 Pro is the phone that put Infinix's GT gaming line into the mainstream conversation in 2024. It combines a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chip, a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen that can refresh at up to 144Hz, a 108MP main camera, a 5,000 mAh battery with 45W charging, and a loud design built around a circular, light-up "mecha" ring on the back. This overview is based on the published specifications and the manufacturer's own information, so it explains what the hardware is designed to do and treats Infinix's statements as claims rather than test results.

Where it sits in the lineup

Infinix is a Transsion brand that sells mainly in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, and the GT series is its performance and gaming tier. The GT 20 Pro is the headline model of its generation, offered according to the official specification sheet in 8GB and 12GB RAM versions with 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, in three colours called Mecha Blue, Mecha Orange and Mecha Silver. No United States price was published on the pages we used, so none is given here, and the release date shown on this site is the commonly cited launch date rather than a date printed on the specification page.

The model sits above Infinix's Hot and Note lines in ambition and below the later generations in age. Its successor, the Infinix GT 30 Pro, continues the formula, while the Infinix Hot 50 Pro+ comes from Infinix's more mainstream Hot line for a different kind of buyer. Against a rival performance phone, the Infinix GT 20 Pro vs POCO F6 page is a useful side-by-side.

Design and display

The back is the signature. Infinix calls the look "mecha": metallic panels, a large circular plate with a ring (shown glowing in the press images) and an X-shaped marking near the bottom. The camera sits in a stepped, angular block with four openings (three lenses and a flash) and coloured diagonal accents that change with the finish; the orange and blue versions use matching accents. The phone measures 164.26 x 75.43 x 8.15 mm and weighs 194 g, which is not especially thin or light but reasonable for a 5,000 mAh phone with a large screen. Protection is rated IP54 under what Infinix describes as Transsion laboratory standards, meaning splash and dust resistance only, and the company's footnote warns that wear and disassembly can reduce it.

The display is a 6.78-inch flexible AMOLED with an LTPS backplane and a 1080x2436 (FHD+) resolution. The refresh rate options are 60Hz, 120Hz and 144Hz, touch sampling goes up to 360Hz, and Infinix quotes a 1,300-nit peak brightness, a 2,304Hz PWM frequency for dimming and a 94.3% screen-to-body ratio. It covers the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The 144Hz mode is the headline for a phone at this level, although it only matters in games and apps that support it. A dedicated display chip, the Pixelworks X5 Turbo, is listed as well; the specification sheet calls it a dedicated gaming display chip but gives no measurable values, so treat it as a feature to try rather than a guaranteed advantage.

Performance and software

The Dimensity 8200 Ultimate is a 4nm octa-core processor. The sheet lists one Cortex-A78 core at 3.1GHz, three more A78 cores at 3.0GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz, with a Mali-G610 MC6 graphics processor. Memory is LPDDR5X and storage is UFS 3.1, so the platform is quick for 2024 mid-range and upper-mid-range use. The company also promotes a "stable frame-rate engine", which is its name for software tuning aimed at keeping frame rates even in long gaming sessions. As with any such claim, only independent testing can say how large the effect is.

RAM needs a clear explanation. The physical memory is 8GB or 12GB. Infinix also advertises "up to 24GB extended RAM", which borrows part of the internal storage as virtual memory. That is a common feature on Transsion phones and can help with app switching, but it is slower than real RAM and uses storage space, so the 12GB figure is the one that describes the hardware. The software is XOS 14 for GT. The specification page does not state which Android version it is based on, so this review does not guess. Infinix markets it as a clean interface without bloatware.

Camera

The rear camera is led by a 108MP Samsung HM6 sensor with an f/1.75 aperture, optical image stabilisation and a six-element lens with autofocus. Two 2MP cameras complete the package, and they are the weak point: they are normally used for depth information and basic macro-style shots rather than serious extra viewpoints. There is no ultra-wide or telephoto camera. Video recording reaches 4K at 60 or 30 frames per second, and 1080p at up to 240 frames per second for slow motion. The front camera is a 32MP unit at f/2.2, which records up to 2K at 30 fps. The modes list is long, including dual video, super night, time-lapse, slow motion, document mode, AR space, pro mode and super macro.

In practice, the 108MP sensor will do most of the work, and its stabilisation is the useful part for low-light and video. Anyone who needs a true ultra-wide or zoom lens will find the GT 20 Pro limited. For a gaming phone that is a normal compromise, but it is worth stating plainly because the megapixel figure on the box can suggest more versatility than the camera system provides.

Battery and charging

The battery is a 5,000 mAh typical-capacity cell, and wired charging is rated at 45W. The footnote adds that different voltage inputs may affect the maximum output in some regions. That is fast enough for a comfortable top-up but slower than the 65W to 120W charging seen on some competitors in 2024, so battery endurance and a sensible charger matter more than headline speed here. The sheet does not mention wireless charging, so assume it is not supported, and Infinix does not give battery-life figures in hours.

Audio, connectivity and extras

For a gaming-oriented phone the extras are generous. There are dual speakers tuned by JBL with DTS and Hi-Res features and Widevine L1 support for HD streaming. A headphone connection through the USB-C port is listed, along with FM radio, NFC, an infrared port, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax), Bluetooth, GPS and OTG. The fingerprint reader sits under the display, and an X-axis vibration motor is included, which matters for gaming feedback. The phone takes two nano SIM cards and supports 5G, 4G, 3G and 2G; the exact bands depend on the regional version, and the sheet carries a reminder that availability varies by operator.

Who it is for

The GT 20 Pro suits buyers who want a distinctive gaming phone with a smooth screen and a solid chip without moving to the most expensive flagships. Mobile gamers, video watchers and heavy multitaskers get the most from the 144Hz panel, the mid-weight body and the large battery. Compromises to keep in mind

In short, the Infinix GT 20 Pro is a bold, gaming-first design with a fast 144Hz screen, a capable Dimensity chip and a big battery, held back mainly by its modest camera set and middling charging speed.
