The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE is the lower-priced entry to Samsung's clamshell foldables. It folds into a compact square, opens into a tall 6.7-inch screen, and keeps a small cover screen for quick checks, but it makes cuts to reach a US starting price of $899.99, announced by Samsung when the phone went on sale on 25 July 2025. This review is based on the specifications and statements Samsung publishes on its US and UK pages and newsroom, and we mark claims as claims. Where Samsung's own pages disagree, we say so openly and avoid guessing.
Where it sits in the lineup
Samsung sells the FE (Fan Edition) alongside the regular Galaxy Z Flip7 and the book-style Galaxy Z Fold7. The FE keeps the Flip form factor but swaps in an Exynos 2400 chip, a conventional 3.4-inch cover screen and a smaller battery, which is where the savings come from. Samsung's US FAQ notes that the cover screen has the same 3.4-inch size as that of the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Flip5, whereas the regular Flip7 introduces a larger edge-to-edge cover display. To see the differences side by side, open the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE versus Galaxy Z Flip7 page.
Design and displays
Unfolded, the phone measures 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm; folded, it is 85.1 x 71.9 x 14.9 mm, and the weight is 187 g. It comes in Black and White (availability varies by country and carrier). The camera lenses sit on the cover side next to a compact black cover screen, and the official images show a clean, flat-sided frame with a visible hinge and a metallic edge. The phone has an IP48 rating, which means protection against immersion in water up to 1.5 metres and against solid objects larger than 1 mm, but not against fine dust. That last point is a known trade-off of foldables: the hinge is the weak spot for dust and sand, and Samsung's rating reflects it.
The main display is a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with 2640 x 1080 resolution in a tall 22:9 shape and an adaptive refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. Samsung quotes a peak brightness of up to 2600 nits. The cover screen is a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED with 720 x 748 resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate and up to 1600 nits. The 120Hz adaptive main screen is a strong point at this price, and the 60Hz cover screen is adequate for notifications, a quick selfie preview, widgets and short replies. Because the cover is smaller and less capable than the larger one on the regular Flip7, you will usually open the phone for anything beyond glancing at information. Like all folding displays, the inner panel has a visible crease when it is viewed at an angle, which is physical rather than a defect.
Performance and software
The Exynos 2400 is a 4nm chip that Samsung also used in an earlier generation of flagships, which is why this phone is positioned as a value model: it is capable for everyday tasks, multitasking and most games, though a newer top-tier chip would deliver more. Samsung's US pages list 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage; one UK comparison page shows 12GB, so check the exact configuration where you shop. There is no microSD slot. We do not publish benchmark figures that Samsung does not provide, and the practical view is that the phone should feel smooth in daily use and show its limits only in long, demanding sessions, where a smaller battery and thermal limits of a thin folding body apply.
The software is One UI 8. Samsung's UK comparison page lists Android 14 at launch while other pages mention a newer Android generation, so we do not state an Android version. Samsung highlights Galaxy AI features and a built-in neural processing unit on its page, but the availability of specific features varies by region and language. The company's update commitments for this model are not given on the pages we reviewed, so we make no claim about the number of years of updates.
Camera
The rear cameras are a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 12MP ultra-wide with an f/2.2 aperture. There is no telephoto lens; Samsung lists digital zoom up to 10x, which is a crop of the main sensor. Inside, the 10MP front camera has an f/2.2 aperture. The trick of a flip phone is that the main cameras can double as selfie cameras: you fold the phone, use the cover screen as a viewfinder and shoot selfies with the 50MP camera. The folding body also allows hands-free shooting at a set angle, which is useful for group shots and video calls.
Image quality should be solid in good light thanks to the 50MP sensor, and the ultra-wide is a useful addition for landscapes and groups. Compared with flagship phones, there is no dedicated zoom lens and the sensors are smaller in this thin body, so low-light and zoom results are the areas to watch. Samsung does not publish test images or scores for this model on its spec pages, and we do not invent any.
Battery and charging
The battery is rated at 4,000 mAh typical, with 3,887 mAh listed as the rated capacity in a footnote. Wired charging is 25W, wireless charging is 15W according to the UK comparison page, and wireless power sharing lets the phone charge accessories like earbuds. A 4,000 mAh battery is smaller than the cells in many slab phones, and two screens, a 120Hz display and 5G use mean most people will want to charge every day. Samsung does not publish an official runtime on these pages.
Who it is for
The Z Flip7 FE is for people who want a pocketable phone and are curious about foldables but are not willing to pay the highest price. It suits commuters who like a phone that shrinks to a small square, fashion-conscious users, and anyone who values a flip format for selfies and compact carrying. Samsung's US page promotes trade-in credit of up to $570, which can lower the effective price for people with a qualifying old phone, though it is conditional on the device. Compromises to know about
- Small cover screen: 3.4 inches and 60Hz, less useful than the larger cover display on the regular Flip7.
- Older chip: the Exynos 2400 is capable but not the newest, and the phone has a smaller battery than many slab phones.
- Modest battery: 4,000 mAh typical with 25W wired charging.
- IP48 only: water-resistant but not dust-tight, a common foldable limitation.
- No telephoto and no microSD: zoom is digital, and storage is fixed at 128GB or 256GB.
- Conflicting listings: Samsung's pages differ on RAM (8GB versus 12GB) and on the Android version at launch, so verify before buying.
In short, the Z Flip7 FE brings the Flip format to a lower price by keeping the large 120Hz AMOLED main screen and trimming the cover display, the chip and the battery. It is a good fit if you value the form factor first and the spec sheet second. Prices outside the US vary, so check current local listings.
