The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is the second generation of Samsung's rugged, titanium-cased smartwatch for outdoor sport, long training days and diving. Samsung announced it at Galaxy Unpacked in London on 22 July 2026, opened pre-orders in select markets the same day and began general sales on 7 August 2026 in 106 markets. This review is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information, so claims that come from Samsung's own test conditions are labelled as claims. The headline changes over the first Ultra are a much larger battery, a markedly brighter screen, a thinner and lighter body, a new chip platform and a set of sport and dive features that are exclusive to this model.

Where it sits in the Galaxy Watch lineup

Samsung splits its watches into two clear tracks this year. The Galaxy Watch9 is the lightweight aluminium companion for everyday health tracking, while the Ultra2 is the flagship for people who train hard, run trails or spend time in the water. It is offered in one case size, 47 mm, in Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray, and it comes only with the larger 800 mAh battery and 64 GB of storage. If you are coming from the first model, the natural comparison is Galaxy Watch Ultra, and a side-by-side is available in the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 vs Galaxy Watch Ultra comparison. If your needs are lighter, the Galaxy Watch9 covers the same health software for less case and less weight.

Design, case and display

The Ultra2 keeps the cushion-shaped silhouette and the shock-resistant titanium casing of its predecessor. Its listed dimensions are 47.4 x 47.1 x 10.7 mm and the weight is 61.5 g. Samsung says the body is 12 percent thinner than the previous generation despite carrying a bigger battery, and that a redesigned internal layout and component optimisation made that possible. The cushion design now blends display, bezel and body more smoothly, which is meant to improve comfort on smaller wrists. Samsung also describes a new air-pocket structure in the band that makes it 26 percent lighter than before, and it offers three purpose-built band families for the Ultra2: Marine, a light and breathable silicone; PeakForm, a hybrid material with a more premium finish; and Trail, a breathable fabric band aimed at running.

The screen is a 1.52 inch (38.5 mm) Super AMOLED panel with 498 x 498 resolution, sapphire crystal cover glass and a full-colour always-on mode. The headline number is brightness: Samsung rates it up to 5,000 nits and calls it the first smartwatch to reach that figure, based on its own market research as of June 2026. The footnote matters, though. Samsung says the 5,000 nit value refers to localised peak brightness under bright ambient light, and that full-screen brightness can be lower and depends on temperature and conditions. In practice, that means the headline suits outdoor readability on a sunny trail more than it describes the typical screen at all times.

Performance, software and connectivity

The Ultra2 is the first Galaxy Watch built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite platform. The spec sheet lists the Qualcomm SDW6100, a penta-core 3 nm chip, together with 2 GB of memory and 64 GB of storage. Samsung says this delivers faster performance and more precise GPS tracking, and the watch has dual-frequency L1 and L5 GPS, which generally helps in canyons, forests and between tall buildings. Other listed connectivity includes LTE, Bluetooth 6.0, dual-band Wi-Fi and NFC. The software is Wear OS 7 powered by Samsung with the One UI 9 Watch layer. The watch needs an Android phone running version 13 or later with more than 1.5 GB of memory, and activation requires a phone with Google Mobile Services, so it is not a stand-alone option for iPhone owners.

The sensor package is the Samsung BioActive Sensor, which combines optical heart-rate sensing, an electrical heart signal and bioelectrical impedance analysis, plus a temperature sensor, accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor and light sensor. The barometer and temperature sensing feed the diving functions described below.

Sport, diving and health features

Several features are tied specifically to this model. Trail Run is a dedicated tracking mode that reports real-time elevation, climbing progress and cumulative ascent and descent, intended to help pace effort on hilly terrain. It needs an Android 13 phone and the Samsung Health app version 7.0 or later. Nutrition Alert gains hydration guidance, which estimates sweat loss relative to body weight and suggests when and how much to drink during long sessions.

The water credentials are unusually detailed for a consumer watch. The Ultra2 is rated 10 ATM and IP69K, carries the EN 13319 certification for diving instruments and meets MIL-STD-810H. Samsung states a 100 metre water resistance rating under the ISO 22810 standard. As soon as the wearer enters the water the watch can automatically record depth, dive time and water temperature, once the auto-launch-on-dive option has been switched on in the settings. Advanced dive functions, including ascent and descent speed and safe dive limits, are being developed with the diving brand Mares. Samsung says they will arrive later this year in a separate Ultra2 Diving app that needs a download, and will stay exclusive to the Ultra2 on Wear OS for two years. Treat those features as announced rather than shipping on day one.

The health layer is shared with the Galaxy Watch9. Samsung lists Sleep Apnea detection with a new FDA clearance and an AI algorithm that groups breathing disruptions into three levels, Vitals, which builds a nightly baseline and flags significant deviations, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, Fitness Index and a Hearing feature that warns about unsafe noise exposure. Some of these depend on the new software: Heart Health Score is listed for watches with One UI 9, and Daily Cardio Load and Fitness Index are limited to Galaxy Watch7 or newer with One UI 9 Watch. Samsung frames all of it as wellness information that does not replace diagnosis by a medical professional, and the sleep apnea feature is only available in selected countries.

Battery and charging

The battery is the largest ever in a Galaxy Watch at 800 mAh typical capacity, 35 percent more than the previous Ultra according to Samsung. The company's launch materials do not publish an hours-of-use figure, so any runtime number you read elsewhere is an estimate rather than a manufacturer specification. Charging is described as high-frequency fast charging over Qi-style (WPC-based) wireless charging. A bigger cell and a more efficient chip point in the right direction for multi-day wear and long GPS workouts, but without a rated runtime it is sensible to wait for independent endurance tests before assuming a specific number of days.

Who it is for

The Ultra2 suits Android users who want one watch for trail running, open-water swimming or recreational diving, and who value a bright screen and a durable titanium case. It is also a reasonable choice for people who wear a watch around the clock and want the largest battery in the family. Because Samsung's own sport features such as Trail Run and the upcoming dive app are exclusive here, it is more than a rebadged Watch9. Compared with dedicated outdoor brands, the Garmin Fenix 9 approaches the same buyer from the sports-watch side, with a different software ecosystem and a different philosophy about battery life, so it is worth looking at both.

Compromises to weigh

Samsung's US launch price is not stated in the materials used for this review, so none is listed here. For an overview of how it fares against other models in the category, see the smartwatch rankings.
