The Galaxy Watch Ultra is the watch Samsung introduced on 10 July 2024, alongside the Galaxy Watch7 and the Galaxy Ring, as the newest and most capable member of the Galaxy Watch line. It went on sale in the UK on 24 July 2024. This page relies on Samsung's UK press release and its specification table, and on the 2025 release for the Galaxy Watch8 series, which repeats a few details about the Ultra. Samsung's claims are labelled as such.

A tougher design

Samsung describes the Ultra as built for extreme durability. The case is Titanium Grade 4, and a new cushion design is meant to give a stronger, more complete look than the classic circle. A Dynamic Lug System is aimed at comfort. The watch comes in a single 47 mm size and measures 47.1 by 47.4 by 12.1 millimetres and 60.5 grams. Water resistance is 10ATM, which Samsung's footnote defines as 10 minutes at 100 metres under the ISO 22810 standard, in addition to IP68; Samsung adds that it is not suitable for diving or high-pressure water activities and that it should be rinsed in fresh water after use in salt water. The table also lists MIL-STD-810H and guaranteed operation at altitudes from 100 metres below sea level up to 9,000 metres, which Samsung frames as useful for swimming and cycling in extreme places.

The launch colours are Titanium Grey, Titanium White and Titanium Silver. In July 2025 Samsung said the Ultra was available in four titanium finishes, adding Titanium Blue.

Display and interface

The display is a 1.5-inch (37.3 mm) Super AMOLED at 480 by 480 pixels with a full-colour always-on mode. Samsung quotes a peak brightness of 3,000 nits so that the screen remains readable in bright sunlight. Dedicated watch faces switch to a night mode automatically after a workout for readability in the dark. A new Quick Button lets the wearer start and control workouts and can be mapped to other functions; the same button can trigger an Emergency Siren for safety, though Samsung's footnote says that loudness and range vary with the environment.

Sport tools

Samsung's release is specific about training features. A new Multi-sports tile tracks multi-stage workouts such as a triathlon, from swimming to cycling to running. Functional Threshold Power (FTP) for cycling is meant to measure maximum cycling power in just four minutes. A personalised heart rate zone feature sets intensity zones based on the wearer's fitness; the footnote says it is enabled when an outdoor run is selected and needs at least 10 minutes of running at 4 km/h or faster. Dual-frequency GPS, on the Ultra and Watch7, is described as more precise in dense urban areas. Race lets users compare a run or ride against a past effort, but only for outdoor running and cycling on a pre-generated path.

Battery and charging

The 2024 press release calls the Ultra the model with the longest battery life within the Galaxy Watch line-up but gives no hour figure or mAh capacity, and says that Power Saving mode and a specific Exercise Power Saving mode extend it further. The footnote warns that Power Saving disables certain features such as Wi-Fi, wake-up gesture and limits CPU speed and background network and location, and Exercise Power Saving disables items such as network and Bluetooth connection and smart home control, and is available only on the Ultra. The 2025 watch table later lists a typical battery of 590 mAh for the Ultra, with fast wireless charging based on the WPC standard.

Health platform and Wear OS

The Ultra shares the chip and software with the Galaxy Watch7: an Exynos W1000 five-core processor built on 3 nm, which Samsung says gives a three times faster CPU and 30 percent better power efficiency for the application processor in the Watch7 series. The BioActive Sensor combines an optical bio-signal sensor, an electrical heart signal sensor and bioelectrical impedance analysis, with temperature, barometer, gyro, geomagnetic and light sensors. Samsung lists electrocardiogram and blood pressure monitoring (users 22 or older, with monthly calibration for blood pressure), body composition, an AGEs Index, sleep analysis with a new algorithm and more than 100 tracked workouts. Samsung says these are for general wellness and fitness and not for diagnosis.

The Ultra and Watch7 were the first Android smartwatches with Wear OS 5. Samsung also highlights ecosystem links: wearing the Galaxy Ring alongside the watch is said to improve health analysis, particularly for sleep, and Double Pinch gestures and Samsung Wallet are supported. Connectivity is LTE, Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi and NFC, and it needs an Android 11 or newer phone with more than 1.5 GB of memory. Storage is 64 GB with 2 GB of memory according to the 2025 table.

Samsung's framing and its siblings

Samsung's UK head of mobile, James Kitto, said in the release that current data show consumers want more control over their health and wellbeing, with nearly half of the UK wanting to track their health and sleep data on a regular basis. The Ultra was announced next to two other products: the Galaxy Watch7, sold in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes with UK prices of 289 pounds (40 mm, Bluetooth), 339 pounds (40 mm, LTE), 319 pounds (44 mm, Bluetooth) and 369 pounds (44 mm, LTE), and the Galaxy Ring at 399 pounds. Suggested Replies, which propose answers based on earlier conversations with Galaxy AI, initially required a Galaxy Z Flip6 or Z Fold6 phone, with more devices promised later in 2024.

Price and availability

The UK recommended price was 599 pounds. Pre-orders began on 10 July 2024 and general availability on 24 July through Samsung.com, Samsung stores and selected retailers. In 2025 Samsung offered a Duo Wireless Charger and a Blue Trail Band worth 150 pounds with purchases made between 9 July and 2 September of that year.

What to keep in mind

The release gives no battery life figure, no weight of the strap, no sensor accuracy claims and no dive rating. The newer Ultra pages are covered by the 2025 series announcement and were not re-announced as a new design, so this page describes the watch as it launched.

Who it fits

The Ultra is for people who want a sports-oriented Galaxy watch with a bigger case than the Galaxy Watch8, and for those upgrading from the Galaxy Watch6. Apple's rival is the Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Garmin's is the fenix 8. The page Galaxy Watch Ultra versus Apple Watch Ultra 3 compares them, and more models are in smartwatches.
