Tecno's Camon line has spent years building a reputation as the camera-first range of a brand better known for affordable phones, and the Tecno Camon 30 Premier (marketed as the Camon 30 Premier 5G) is the model where that ambition is stated most loudly. It combines a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chip, a 6.77-inch 1.5K LTPO AMOLED display, a triple 50MP rear camera with a periscope-style portrait lens, a 50MP autofocus selfie camera and a 5000 mAh battery with 70W charging. What follows is a review based on the published specifications and manufacturer information from Tecno's own product and tech-spec pages; statements that come from Tecno's marketing are labelled as claims.
Where it sits in the Camon range
The Camon 30 generation spans several tiers. The Tecno Camon 30 is the base model, the Tecno Camon 30 5G is a 5G sibling with a single 50MP main rear camera, and the Premier carries the strongest chip, the telephoto lens and the highest-resolution display of the models documented here. Tecno also says its Sony imaging chip debuted on this model. The design language is shared with the lower models, including the "Designed by LOEWE" collaboration colourway, but unlike the Camon 30 5G, the Premier has a 3x periscope camera. A later generation exists in the form of the Tecno Camon 40 Premier 5G, which is the natural point of comparison for anyone shopping today.
Design: a camera, in the form of a phone
The marketing language is unusually explicit here: Tecno says it infused the soul of a classic rangefinder camera into the body, with a large circular lens ring, a red dot accent and a "zoom ring" texture around the camera island. The back panel is finished in what Tecno calls "tech-art leather", a textured material with a hydrophobic touch that it says stays grippy with sweaty hands. The company also describes a unibody aerospace-grade metal frame and Corning Gorilla Glass on the front, though it does not name the Gorilla Glass generation on the pages reviewed, and it does not publish an ingress-protection rating or a weight there either.
Three finishes are listed: a LOEWE Edition with a striped green leather back, Hawaii Lava Black and Alps Snowy Silver. The measured size is 162.66 x 76.23 x 7.907 mm. A small "smart breathing" light beside the lens is positioned by Tecno as a cinematic touch when recording or on calls. As with most cosmetic features, whether you like it is subjective. The materials described on paper are on the upscale side, but none of the finishes can be judged without handling the phone.
Display and sound
The screen is a 6.77-inch AMOLED with a 1264 x 2780 resolution, which Tecno calls 1.5K+, an LTPO panel that can vary its refresh rate up to 120Hz. In practice, LTPO means the panel can slow itself down on static content to save power, which suits the 5000 mAh battery. Tecno also lists support for "wet finger" touch operation, intended for use with damp hands, and the company says its ultra-narrow bezels widen the viewing area. The jump from 1080p to 1.5K means sharper text than the Camon 30 5G's 6.78-inch FHD+ panel, with a modest battery cost that LTPO is meant to offset.
Audio comes from dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and Tecno highlights an X-axis haptic motor intended to give crisper feedback. The device also includes an infrared remote control, a feature that has disappeared from many competitors and is a practical bonus for anyone who still controls a TV or air conditioner with a remote.
Performance, memory and software
The MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate 5G is the most powerful chip in the Camon 30 generation, and Tecno says it is built on TSMC's flagship process. Tecno describes it as strong in both imaging and gaming, and the phone adds a "10-layer gaming-grade cooling" structure, which the company calls the strongest cooling combination in the Camon line. The page lists the memory configuration as 512GB of storage with 24GB of RAM, but the 24GB figure is split into 12GB of physical RAM plus 12GB of "extended" memory, so the real figure is 12GB. That is still ample for multitasking, and the extension is best understood as a software convenience rather than extra performance. The operating system is Android 14; the Tecno pages reviewed do not state the HiOS version or a security-update commitment, so those details remain unverified.
Cameras: the headline
The rear system is three 50MP sensors: a main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and optical image stabilisation, a 3x telephoto camera and an ultra-wide camera, with a quad flash. Tecno names the main sensor as the Sony IMX890 with OIS, which it markets for night photography with a large aperture. The 3x lens is described as a professional "periscopic" portrait lens with a 70mm equivalent focal length, aimed at natural background blur and low-light portraits without relying on cropping from the main sensor. The ultra-wide covers group shots and interiors, and Tecno talks about a zoom range "from microcosms to ultra-wide perspectives", a statement of range rather than of quality.
There is also a second imaging chip. Tecno says the Camon 30 Premier is the first phone in the series to carry a dedicated Sony imaging chip (CXD5622GG) that it claims enables on-device FP16 processing and RAW-domain computational photography. Tied to that are the video claims: 4K at 30 frames per second with AI noise reduction and HDR in "full scenes", a 4K night-vision mode and 4K portrait video with a claimed 20-bit colour range. These are all manufacturer descriptions, and no published test data backs them up, so independent footage is worth waiting for before taking them at face value.
On the front, a 50MP autofocus camera with eye tracking is listed. Tecno spends marketing space on skin-tone tuning developed with its portrait data, and on AI features for editing and creating profile pictures. For video calls and vlogs the resolution is generous, though the published data cannot show how sharp the results are.
Battery and charging
The 5000 mAh battery is paired with 70W wired charging through USB-C. Tecno's page claims a full charge in roughly the time of a cup of coffee, but does not give a number of minutes, so the exact timing is unconfirmed. Wireless charging is not listed on the pages reviewed. For a phone with a 120Hz LTPO display, a flagship-class chip and a 50MP front camera, 5000 mAh is a typical capacity rather than an outstanding one, and real endurance will depend on how often the high-refresh panel and the chip are pushed.
Who it is for
The Camon 30 Premier suits buyers who care about portraits and telephoto shots, who want a quad flash and an optically stabilised main camera, and who like a distinctive look with premium materials. It also suits people who value IR remote functionality, high storage and a high-resolution selfie camera. Compared to the lower Camon 30 models, it is the one that justifies the "Premier" name through hardware rather than just styling.
Compromises to weigh
- Unpublished essentials. No weight, water-resistance rating or update policy appears on the pages reviewed.
- RAM headline. The 24GB figure includes 12GB of storage-based extended memory.
- Claims need verification. The 4K HDR, night-vision and 20-bit colour descriptions come from Tecno itself.
- Single configuration listed. The pages show only a 512GB model, which may limit options in some markets.
- Software details. The pages reviewed do not describe the HiOS version or the pre-installed apps.
