The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is Google's third foldable phone and, in Google's words, its most durable one. It was announced at Made by Google in August 2025 with pre-orders that day and reached shelves on 9 October 2025, a few weeks after the Pixel 10, 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL. This page brings together Google's launch post, its engineering story about the new hinge and its camera notes, and it keeps every performance or durability figure labelled as a Google claim rather than a measured result. Google did not state a price in the launch post we used, so we do not list one.

The gearless hinge

The most interesting part of this phone is the hinge, and Google published a long design story about it. A typical foldable hinge uses four gears with teeth so that the two halves rotate symmetrically. Google's engineers replaced them with cams, mechanical parts that convert rotational motion into linear motion, which saves space inside the hinge. Yongho Lim, who worked on the architecture, says the team first thought spring-loaded cams on each half might replace the gears, and that with the cams connected across the hinge, opening one half forces the other to follow. The first prototypes opened in perfect sync, and the design also survived its first drop test. The stated reasons for the change are reliability and space: gears can be damaged, and dust can get trapped between them and degrade the opening and closing that matters most on a foldable. Google says the new hinge is twice as durable as the hinge in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Once the gears were gone, the team could rearrange the inside of the phone, which Google credits for the larger displays, the bigger battery and a thinner build. The hinge stays polished aluminum to match the other Pro Pixels, and the edges have diamond-cut chamfers with a metallic finish, echoing fine jewellery and watches, according to the design team.

Durability claims

Google calls this the first foldable with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, made possible because the small gaps that the old hinge gears needed have gone. That gives it the same rated protection as the other Pixel 10 phones, at least according to Google's post. The inner Super Actua Flex display was re-engineered as well: it uses ultra-thin glass and two layers of anti-impact film for extra drop protection, and Google says the combination with the new hinge can handle over ten years of folding. The body is aerospace-grade aluminum, and the colours are Moonstone and Jade. As always with lab ratings and durability claims, they describe controlled conditions, not guarantees for every drop or every pocket, so a case and sensible handling still matter.

Displays

Google says the phone has the largest inner display on a foldable at 8 inches and a bigger 6.4-inch outer display, thanks to smaller bezels that shrank in part when the hinge gears were removed. Both screens reach up to 3,000 nits, so they should stay readable in bright sun according to Google. Google's design team also stresses that it wanted the phone to feel like a regular pro-level phone in the hand, with dimensions that resemble a normal phone, better grip because the hinge protrudes less, and a smoother opening motion that still feels sturdy.

Battery, charging and Pixelsnap

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold has Google's biggest battery on a foldable so far, with a stated life of up to 30 hours or more. When you need a boost, faster wired charging reaches 50 percent in 30 minutes. It is also described as the first foldable with Qi2 charging built in. Through Pixelsnap, magnets inside the phone let compatible chargers and stands snap onto the back, even when the phone is unfolded, and a ring stand can prop it up for hands-free viewing. Google's design story adds that it is the only foldable on the market compatible with magnetic Qi2 charging systems. Google does not list a milliampere-hour capacity in the material we used, so compare the store listing before you buy.

Tensor G5 and the AI features

Like the rest of the Pixel 10 family, the Fold runs on Google's Tensor G5 chip, which Google describes as delivering advanced camera intelligence and on-device AI. The AI features match the other Pixel 10 phones: Gemini Live, Magic Cue and Daily Hub, plus photography tools such as Add Me, Best Take and Camera Coach. The chip details, including the TPU and CPU improvements Google quotes, are covered on the Pixel 10 Pro page. One difference worth knowing: Pro Res Zoom, the 100x generative zoom, is exclusive to the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL, so the Fold is not part of it.

Cameras made for a foldable

The Fold has a triple rear camera system with a new 48MP main sensor, plus ultrawide and telephoto lenses. Google lists Macro Focus, Super Res Zoom up to 20x and Rear Camera Selfie, which lets you take selfies with the main cameras. The new foldable-specific feature is Instant View: when the phone is unfolded, you can preview your last photos and videos next to the viewfinder and retake a shot before the moment passes. It joins Made You Look, Dual Screen Preview and Tabletop Mode, other foldable camera features that Google lists. The camera notes also tell us the Pixel 10 phones have C2PA Content Credentials in the camera app.

Multitasking and games

On the large inner display, Split Screen lets you run two apps at once and now lets you adjust the size of each, and Drag and Drop moves media and files between apps. Google says it keeps working with developers to optimise apps for foldables. A new game controller function on the outer display supports titles such as Asphalt Legends and Disney Speedstorm, and streaming on Netflix and Disney+ has been optimised for the large screen. Whether a favourite app of yours scales well is something only hands-on testing can show, so treat that as a claim to verify.

Where it fits

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is aimed at people who want a large screen without giving up the ordinary things a phone does, such as wireless charging accessories and dust and water resistance. Its natural rival is Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold7, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold vs Galaxy Z Fold7 table sets the two side by side. For a non-folding option from the same family, see the Pixel 10, and our phones section covers everything else we track. Google's newest watch, the Pixel Watch 4, completes the ecosystem.
