The Google Pixel Watch 4 is what Google calls its biggest update to the Pixel Watch yet. Announced at Made by Google 2025 and on shelves from 9 October 2025, it keeps the round shape of earlier generations but changes almost everything around it: a physically domed display, a larger battery life, a new chip, a repairable construction and support for satellite emergency communication. This page brings together Google's launch post, its hands-on follow-up and a later feature update, and points out where the claims are Google's own.
Launch, sizes and price
Google opened pre-orders at launch with retail availability from 9 October 2025. The watch comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes, and Google kept pricing at the level of the Pixel Watch 3: the 41mm model starts at 349 dollars for Wi-Fi and 449 dollars for LTE, and the 45mm model starts at 399 dollars for Wi-Fi and 499 dollars for LTE in the United States. Colours are chosen to complement Pixel phones and stand on their own, and a range of new accessory bands is available. If you have an older Pixel watch, our Pixel Watch 2 page describes that generation, and the Pixel Watch 2 vs Pixel Watch 4 table shows how far the line has moved. The watch pairs naturally with Google's phones, such as the Pixel 10.
Domed Actua 360 display
The headline change is the screen. Google says the Actua 360 display is the first of its kind: it is physically curved, not just covered by curved glass, which produces a 10 percent larger active area and an almost edgeless look, with 16 percent smaller bezels. Brightness reaches 3,000 nits, 50 percent brighter than before, so the display stays visible in direct sunlight. Google's writer described in the hands-on post how Adaptive Brightness helped when running in sunglasses on a sunny day and how notifications and text are bolder and better organised under the new Material 3 Expressive design, which brings richer colours, new clock faces and more glanceable layouts. Colour themes, familiar from Pixel phones, now apply on the watch too, and the tester chose a Jade theme. A custom haptic engine is 15 percent stronger and an upgraded speaker improves Gemini interactions.
Battery and charging
Battery life is 25 percent longer than on the previous model, at 30 hours for the 41mm size and 40 hours for the 45mm size. Battery Saver mode stretches this to two days on the 41mm watch and three days on the 45mm watch. The new Quick Charge Dock charges 25 percent faster than before, from 0 to 50 percent in 15 minutes, and the watch snaps into it magnetically. In the hands-on post the writer liked that the display rotates automatically to show the time, so the dock doubles as a nightstand clock, and that a 15-minute charge was enough to cover a morning run. The times quoted are Google's laboratory or typical-use figures, so real results vary with settings such as always-on display, LTE and workouts.
Chip and durable, serviceable design
Inside is the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 wearable platform together with a machine-learning co-processor that Google says is 25 percent faster while using half the power. The housing is aerospace-grade aluminium with custom Corning Gorilla Glass, and the watch is water resistant to 50 metres. For the first time in the Pixel Watch line, the watch is serviceable, with a replaceable battery and display, a meaningful change because a smartwatch battery is often the first part to wear out. Google's own repair information should be checked for prices and availability in your country.
Satellite emergency communication
The LTE model is described as the first smartwatch with standalone emergency satellite communications. Powered by the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2, it can connect you to emergency services through geostationary satellites, dispatching help to your location even when you have no cellular signal. It is limited to emergency use, and it requires clear sky, so it is a safety feature rather than a general messaging tool. Google also notes that the Pixel Watch remains the only smartwatch that can detect a loss of pulse.
Health and fitness
Google says the Pixel Watch 4 delivers its most accurate health and fitness tracking to date. New machine-learning models make sleep classification 18 percent more accurate at identifying the complete cycle and time in each stage. A new skin temperature sensor detects when you are outside your personal range, which may point to changes in wellbeing such as being under the weather. Dual-frequency GPS improves route tracking in tough environments such as downtown streets and dense forest. Cyclists can stream real-time metrics from the watch to the Fitbit app as a heads-up display on the handlebars. New exercise modes, including pickleball and basketball, bring the total to more than 50, and the watch can automatically detect and classify an activity if you forget to start it, then send a recap. A swimming feature enables Water Lock automatically when you submerge and ejects water afterwards, and lets you add custom metrics. Existing tools include stress management, Cardio and Target Load, ECG assessment, the Health Metrics Dashboard and Morning Brief.
Gemini and AI
Gemini can be summoned with Raise to Talk: lift your wrist and speak to ask questions or set timers without touching the watch or reaching for your phone. Smart Replies produce AI-suggested responses to messages. In a later update, one-handed gestures called Double pinch and Wrist turn let you scroll through and dismiss notifications, snooze alarms, manage timers and stopwatches, pause music, pick a smart reply and answer or end calls, with on-screen hints when a Double pinch is available. Google also said Pixel Watch 3 and newer watches use an on-device Gemma-based language model for Smart Replies, which is twice as fast and uses nearly three times less memory than the previous model, and works even when the watch is not connected to a phone. Google also announced a personal AI health coach built with Gemini for a reimagined Fitbit app, starting as a US preview in October 2025 for users of any Fitbit device or Pixel Watch, so availability depends on region and sign-up.
How it compares
Among current smartwatches, the Pixel Watch 4 stands out for repairability and satellite emergency use on an Android-focused platform. Apple rivals such as the Watch Ultra 3 offer satellite messaging and longer battery life at a higher price, while the Watch Series 11 offers hypertension notifications for iPhone owners.
