The HUAWEI WATCH FIT 3 is a slim, square-faced smartwatch that sits between a fitness band and a full smartwatch. Huawei's own description sums it up in four points: an ultra-slim design, a 1.82-inch AMOLED display, all-round fitness and health tracking, and up to 10 days of battery life. It weighs about 26 g without the strap, measures 9.9 mm at its thinnest point, has a rotating crown and a function button, and works with both Android and iOS phones. This overview is based on the published specifications and the manufacturer's information, so it describes what the watch is designed to do and marks Huawei's statements as claims. It should not be read as a medical review.
Where it sits in the lineup
The FIT line is Huawei's lightweight, rectangular series aimed at people who want a larger screen than a band without a bulky round watch. The Fit 3 is available in several case and strap combinations according to the official specification page: Gold with a white leather strap, Silver with grey nylon, green or white fluoroelastomer straps, Pink and a Tarnish (black) version. All use an aluminium alloy case. Huawei does not list a United States price on the pages we used, so none is given here, and the release date is the commonly cited launch date rather than a date printed on the specification page. The software support section of the UK page states a defined support period of two years for security updates.
For the generations that followed, see the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 4 and the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5, which show how the series has developed. For a look at how it compares with a mainstream rival, the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 3 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch8 page lines up the specifications, although the two watches target different budgets and different expectations.
Design and display
The case measures 43.2 x 36.3 x 9.9 mm. Huawei notes that 9.9 mm is the thickness of the band at its thinnest point, excluding the sensor area, so the real profile on the wrist is a little more than that. The weight is about 26 g without the strap, which is very light for a watch with a screen this large. There are two physical controls: a rotating crown, which Huawei says lets you zoom the app grid, scroll lists and adjust volume and keeps working with moist fingers, and a function button that opens a preset app on a press and starts the voice assistant on a long press. The wrist-size ranges are 120 to 190 mm for the white leather and pink straps and 130 to 210 mm for the grey, green, white and black straps.
The display is a 1.82-inch AMOLED with a 480 x 408 resolution, which gives 347 pixels per inch. Huawei quotes a peak brightness of 1,500 nits, a 60Hz refresh rate, automatic brightness adjustment and a 77.4% screen-to-body ratio. The square screen is the watch's identity: it shows more information at once than a typical round watch face, and Huawei offers many faces including custom ones from the gallery, plus an always-on display option. The glass and strap options are stylish rather than rugged, though the watch has a 5 ATM water-resistance rating under the ISO 22810:2010 standard, which covers swimming in shallow water but is not a diving rating, and Huawei adds that the protection is not permanent. Huawei also says the watch passed eight durability tests including drop, temperature-shock and high-humidity tests.
Fitness and health features
Built-in GPS is the key fitness feature, and it is a notable one for a watch this light, because it lets you track runs and walks without carrying a phone. Huawei lists more than 100 workout modes and automatic detection for six types of exercise, a new track-run mode that uses the GPS to calibrate lap distance, animated warm-up and cool-down guides for eight common exercises, and activity rings for movement, exercise and standing. A calorie-tracking screen shows intake, active and resting calories, with a food diary and nutrition analysis available through the Huawei Health app. A smart-suggestions feature recommends activities based on your habits and the weather.
The health side relies on a 9-axis motion sensor (accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer), an optical heart rate sensor and an ambient light sensor. Huawei says heart rate tracking uses a multi-channel module with a fusion algorithm, and that blood oxygen (SpO2) readings are faster thanks to its TruSeen 5.5 system. Other features are sleep monitoring with heart rate, SpO2 and respiratory rate, sleep-improvement tips, pulse wave arrhythmia analysis that flags possible atrial fibrillation and premature beats, menstrual cycle tracking, and a family health sharing feature. Huawei states clearly that the product is not intended for medical use and that data is for reference only, and that caution applies here: treat these readings as wellness information, not diagnosis.
Battery and charging
The watch has a 400 mAh battery, and Huawei gives three endurance figures with detailed test conditions: up to 10 days at maximum, 7 days for typical use and 4 days with the always-on display enabled. The 10-day figure assumes light use, such as weekly Bluetooth calls and music, heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking, and about 90 minutes of exercise per week with GPS. The 7-day figure includes stress detection and automatic SpO2 measurement and 180 minutes of weekly exercise. These come from Huawei's laboratories, and heavy GPS use or constant notifications will shorten them. Charging uses a magnetic pin cable that needs a 5V/1A supply. The charging cable is included, a power adapter is not listed in the box.
Smart features and connectivity
Bluetooth 5.2 (BR and BLE) connects the watch to a phone, and Bluetooth calling lets you answer calls from the wrist. The watch can play music on its own, send reminders, act as a remote shutter for the phone camera, show a Huawei Assistant feed with weather and services, and run a multitasking manager that lets you answer a call or check the weather without leaving a workout. NFC is available only on the white leather and grey models, so check the exact variant if contactless features matter to you. The watch needs Android 8.0 or later or iOS 13.0 or later and works with the HUAWEI Health app. The specification page does not state an operating system, a storage size or a processor, so this review does not describe them. The package contains the watch, the charging cable and printed documents.
Who it is for
The WATCH FIT 3 suits people who want a light, good-looking watch with built-in GPS, solid sleep and fitness tracking and a week or more of battery life, and who are happy with a simpler experience than a full smartwatch. It works for iPhone owners as well as Android users. The rankings page is the best place to see how it compares across the whole category.
Compromises to keep in mind
- A 60Hz screen. It is bright and sharp but not as fluid as some higher-end watches.
- NFC on selected variants only. White leather and grey models support it, the others do not.
- Not a full app platform. Third-party apps and storage details are not described on the specification page.
- Health readings are for reference. Huawei states they are not for diagnosis or treatment.
- Limited software support period. The UK page lists two years of defined security-update support.
In short, the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 3 is a very light square smartwatch with a bright AMOLED screen, built-in GPS and a long battery life, held back mainly by a 60Hz display, selective NFC and a limited, lightweight software platform.
