The HONOR Watch 5 Ultra is HONOR's titanium-cased flagship smartwatch, introduced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 2 March 2025 alongside the company's "ALPHA PLAN" strategy announcement. It pairs an octagonal "dome" case with sapphire glass, a 1.5-inch AMOLED screen and a 480 mAh battery that HONOR says can last up to 15 days in typical use. This page is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information, and it explains what the watch offers, where it sits in HONOR's range and which limits a buyer should consider.
Place in the lineup
HONOR positions the Watch 5 Ultra at the top of its watch family, with the "Ultra" name signalling durability and outdoor ambitions. HONOR's own site has since added a newer model, the HONOR Watch 6, and it points visitors to that watch for the latest releases, so the Watch 5 Ultra is best read as a premium model from the previous generation rather than the newest one. The launch announcement is dated 2 March 2025, which is used as the release date here; HONOR's product pages do not give a separate on-sale date, and availability depends on the country. The watch is sold in two versions: Black, with a titanium alloy body and a fluoroelastomer strap, and Brown, with the same titanium body and a leather strap.
Design and materials
HONOR describes the shape as inspired by a spaceship viewport, with an octagonal bezel, and calls it a "Dome Octagonal Design" that blends Eastern and Western influences. The case is grade 5 titanium alloy, the same grade used in aerospace, with a polymer fibre composite back cover. The glass is artificial sapphire, a material chosen for scratch resistance. HONOR also says the watch holds a five-star comprehensive reliability certification from the Swiss laboratory SGS, covering impact resistance, corrosion resistance and scratch resistance of the metal coating and glass; the company adds the sensible caveat that passing these tests does not guarantee suitability for every extreme environment.
The case measures 46.3 x 46.3 mm and is 11.4 mm thick at its thinnest point, measured without the sensor area. The weight is about 51.8 g without a strap. Those numbers put it in large-watch territory, so it will suit larger wrists best, although the straps fit 140 to 210 mm, which is a broad range. The side crown rotates for scrolling, and there are two buttons that support press and hold. Charging is wireless, through a dock supplied in the box.
Display
The display is a 1.5-inch AMOLED panel at 466 x 466 pixels and 310 ppi. HONOR's press material mentions LTPO technology for an always-on display and a refresh rate of up to 60Hz, with the note that the actual display behaviour varies by scenario. A 60Hz ceiling is standard for smartwatches and gives little to complain about on a screen this size. HONOR has not published a peak-brightness figure on the pages used here, so outdoor readability cannot be judged from the specifications alone.
Health, fitness and the diving mode
The sensor set listed by HONOR includes an optical heart rate sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, barometer and ambient light sensor. The headline health feature is Quick Health Scan, which HONOR says collects heart rate, blood oxygen, stress and sleep readings in about one minute from a single tap. The watch also produces a morning report summarising the previous day's data and offers all-day tracking. HONOR states that the product is not a medical device and that the measurements are for reference only; blood oxygen is not available in Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. Some features require an HONOR phone running MagicOS 9.0 or later, which is a real limitation for people who use other brands.
For active use, positioning covers GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS, and the watch is rated 5ATM and IP68. The unusual feature is a 40M Free Diving Mode that complies with the EN13319 diving accessory standard and supports recreational free dives to a depth of 40 metres. It is designed to show depth, speed, water temperature, maximum depth, underwater time and direction, and it includes two apnea training modes and a test mode. HONOR's page marks this feature "Coming Soon", so confirm that it is available on your device and in your region before relying on it. HONOR also notes that the watch should not be worn for scuba or technical dives, hot showers, saunas or while exposed to soaps, and that the leather strap is not intended for swimming.
Sleep features include soothing music and sleep-friendly watch faces, and the watch can record short voice notes that sync to the HONOR Notes app. A two-way find function lets you locate the phone from the watch and the other way round, as long as the two are connected over Bluetooth.
Battery and charging
The rated battery capacity is 480 mAh. HONOR's figure of up to 15 days comes from its own laboratory under typical conditions with an HONOR phone, and the scenario assumes continuous heart rate measurement in smart mode, sleep tracking, 30 minutes of calls, 30 minutes of music and 90 minutes of GPS exercise per week, notifications, and 200 screen wake-ups a day. In other words, the number reflects moderate use. Heavier GPS tracking, always-on display or more calls would shorten it. The wireless dock supports fast charging, and HONOR says ten minutes of charging provides a full day of use when starting from a minimum of 5 percent. As always, these are manufacturer numbers.
Software and compatibility
The watch works with Android 9.0 or later and iOS 13.0 or later, uses Bluetooth 5.2, and has a speaker and microphone. HONOR's pages used here do not name the watch's operating system, so that is not listed. The companion app is HONOR Health. Because several features are tied to MagicOS 9.0 phones, the experience will be best with an HONOR handset such as the HONOR Magic7 Pro or the newer HONOR 600.
Who it is for
The Watch 5 Ultra suits people who want a titanium watch with sapphire glass and long battery life, who prefer a classic-meets-sport look, and who own an HONOR phone. It is also attractive to swimmers and recreational free divers if the diving mode is available in their market. Those who want deep platform integration with another phone brand, or the widest set of features from a connected ecosystem, may prefer an alternative such as the Apple Watch Ultra 2 or a fitness-focused model like the Garmin fenix 8. The page HONOR Watch 5 Ultra vs Garmin fenix 8 sets the specifications side by side, and the rankings show how it stands overall.
Compromises
The size is large, and the 11.4 mm thickness is noticeable on smaller wrists. Several health and convenience features depend on a recent HONOR phone. The 40M diving mode is labelled as coming soon, and its use carries clear safety limits. Blood oxygen is unavailable in a few markets. The pages used here give no price and no on-sale date, and they do not state a peak brightness figure, so confirm those details with a local retailer before buying. Within those limits, the HONOR Watch 5 Ultra offers a premium material set and a strong endurance claim that is worth considering for anyone already in HONOR's ecosystem.
