The Galaxy Watch8 Classic is the more traditional of the two watches in Samsung's Galaxy Watch8 series, which Samsung introduced on 9 July 2025 together with a new Galaxy Watch Ultra. Pre-orders opened the same day and wide availability began on 25 July in the UK. This page is based on Samsung's UK press release and its specification table for the series. We describe the Classic from the columns and passages that apply to it and say so where the release talks about the Watch8 in general.

Design: the classic, reworked

Samsung says the Watch8 series takes the cushion design that debuted on the Galaxy Watch Ultra and makes it the identity of the entire lineup. For the series it claims the thinnest and most comfortable Galaxy Watch yet, compared with previous models: the internal structure was reengineered, component mounting capability improved by 30 percent and the Watch8 made 11 percent thinner. A Dynamic Lug system lets the case move naturally with the wrist, which Samsung says improves comfort, stability and health-tracking accuracy.

The Classic keeps what its name promises: a rotating bezel and a quick button on the case. It comes in a single 46 mm size in Black and White. The table lists 46.4 by 46 by 10.6 millimetres and 63.5 grams, measured without health sensors and without a band, so the wearable weight will differ. Samsung says the watch can be paired with a range of bands sold separately. The durability entry is 5ATM plus IP68 and MIL-STD-810H certification, which Samsung explains as a test that cycles between minus 20 and 50 degrees Celsius over six hours; the 10ATM rating is reserved for the Ultra. A 3D Hall sensor, which the base Watch8 does not list, is listed for the Classic, though the release does not say what it is used for.

Display and hardware

The Classic has a 1.34-inch Super AMOLED display at 438 by 438 pixels with a full-colour always-on mode and a sapphire crystal cover. Samsung says the Watch8 display is up to 50 percent brighter than before, with a peak of 3,000 nits for visibility in bright sunlight. Inside is the Exynos W1000 five-core processor on a 3 nm process, described as Samsung's most powerful chip for a watch, with 2 GB of memory and 64 GB of storage, twice the storage of the base Watch8. The typical battery is 445 mAh, up from 435 mAh on the 44 mm Watch8, with fast charging based on WPC wireless charging. Samsung's footnote notes that charge times were tested with a magnetic USB-C cable and a 25 W adapter sold separately and that actual results vary.

Connectivity is Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC and L1 plus L5 dual-frequency GPS, with LTE on LTE models. The watch works with Android 11 or later phones that have more than 1.5 GB of memory.

Health and wellness features

The Samsung BioActive Sensor combines an optical bio-signal sensor, electrical heart signal sensor and bioelectrical impedance analysis. On top of it, Samsung adds several new features to the Samsung Health app. Bedtime Guidance measures the circadian rhythm over three days of sleep analysis and suggests an optimal bedtime. Vascular Load monitors the stress on the vascular system during sleep and needs the watch worn while sleeping at least three days out of the last 14. Antioxidant Index measures carotenoid levels with a five-second finger placement on the back sensor. Running Coach rates fitness from 1 to 10 after a test and builds a training plan with real-time guidance. High Stress Alert and a Mindfulness and Stress Tracker cover stress, and the AI-based Energy Score combines physical and mental energy measures. The Together feature now supports running challenges.

Samsung's footnotes are important here: Vascular Load and Antioxidant Index are Labs features in preview that can be turned off, some features require watches from the Ultra generation or later, and all are meant for general wellness and fitness rather than for detecting or treating disease. The series also carries sleep apnoea detection, which Samsung says is meant to detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea over two nights, needs a Galaxy phone on Android 12 or above, is for people 22 and older and does not replace a diagnosis.

Wear OS 6, One UI 8 Watch and Gemini

Developed with Google, the Watch8 series is the first smartwatch with Wear OS 6, and it has Gemini preloaded. Samsung's examples are asking for a nearby cafe and texting a friend in one request, or saying start a 30-minute run to begin a workout in Samsung Health. One UI 8 Watch adds Multi-Info Tiles for health, weather and events, a Now Bar and depth-free notifications.

The series around it

Samsung's UK mobile marketing lead, Annika Bizon, said the next frontier for wearable technology is preventative health: the aim is not only to monitor wellbeing but to give personal, reliable and meaningful insights. Around the Classic, the release lists the Galaxy Watch8 in 44 mm and 40 mm in Graphite or Silver, with UK prices of 319 pounds (40 mm Bluetooth), 369 pounds (40 mm LTE), 349 pounds (44 mm Bluetooth) and 399 pounds (44 mm LTE), and the Galaxy Watch Ultra at 599 pounds. It also mentions the Galaxy Ring, in sizes 5 to 15 with up to seven days of battery life, as a more discreet way to track health continuously.

Price and offers

UK recommended prices were 449 pounds for the 46 mm Bluetooth model and 499 pounds for the LTE model. At launch Samsung offered 10 percent off a watch when pre-ordered with a Z Series or S Series phone, and a Duo Wireless Charger plus a Camel Hybrid Band worth 130 pounds with purchases between 9 July and 2 September 2025. Three months of Samsung Care+ were included for new customers on that date, with monthly payments after that.

What is not stated

The release gives no hours for battery life, no accuracy figures and no US prices. It does not say which health features work without a Galaxy phone beyond the footnotes, and some, such as sleep apnoea detection, need a Galaxy phone.

Who should choose it

Pick the Classic if you want a watch that looks like a traditional timepiece with a physical bezel; if you prefer a slimmer, lighter case, read the page on the Galaxy Watch8. For the toughest Samsung watch, see the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Apple owners can compare it with the Apple Watch Series 11, and Google's option is the Pixel Watch 4. The page Watch8 Classic versus Watch8 lists the differences, and all models are in smartwatches.
