The Polar Street X is a rugged, lightweight sports watch from the Finnish maker Polar, announced on 25 March 2026 and aimed at people who train in and around the city. It combines a 1.28-inch AMOLED touchscreen, built-in GPS, optical heart-rate tracking, Polar's training-load and recovery tools and an integrated LED flashlight in a 48 g reinforced polymer case, at a list price of $249.90 in the US. This page is based on the published specifications and manufacturer information from Polar's press release and product page, and it marks Polar's performance and durability statements as claims.

Place in the lineup

Polar says the Street X brings its training and recovery features to a "more affordable price point". Polar also sells the Vantage and Grit X series, and the Street X targets people who split their week between gym sessions, street runs and commuting. The press release gives launch prices of EUR 249.90, USD 249.90 and GBP 219.00, where the euro and pound prices include VAT and the US price excludes tax. The watch went on sale worldwide on the day of the announcement through polar.com and selected retailers in Night Black and Snow White, with a third colour, Forest Green, offered first in a limited batch on polar.com and wider availability planned for later in the second quarter.

Competitors in the sports-watch field include Garmin's Forerunner 970 and fenix 8, as well as smartwatch-style models such as the Galaxy Watch8. A direct Polar Street X vs. Garmin Forerunner 970 comparison shows how a durability-focused model differs from a dedicated running watch.

Design and display

The Street X measures 45 x 45 x 13.8 mm and weighs 48 g with the wristband and 28 g without it. The case and bezel are made of bio-based plastic, and the polymer body is reinforced with an eight-screw chassis that Polar says spreads impact across the case to protect the watch and its sensors. Polar states that the watch is tested to the MIL-STD-810H military standard, that it works from -20 to 50 °C and that it is water resistant to WR50, which is suitable for swimming in a pool but not for diving. Large, textured buttons are meant to be easy to use with sweaty hands, gloves or in cold weather, and the strap is a 22 mm quick-release type, so standard wristbands can be swapped in. Polar also lists a replaceable battery.

The display is a 1.28-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 416 x 416 pixels, an ambient light sensor and an optional always-on mode, protected by Gorilla Glass 3. Polar presents it as clear and bright day and night, although it does not publish a brightness figure. Watch faces and widgets can be customised in several themes and colours, and training views can show data such as heart-rate zones, running power, routes and elevation. A feature that Polar calls its first is the built-in LED flashlight with quick switching between white and red light; the white light is for everyday visibility and the red light helps keep your eyes adjusted to the dark in low-light conditions.

Training and tracking

The watch supports more than 170 sports and activities, from running, cycling, strength training and HIIT to functional training and calisthenics. Training features include Training Load Pro and cardio load, a Work-Rest Guide that recommends rest between strength sets, wrist-based running power, a running programme, a running index, running and fitness tests, FitSpark daily workout suggestions, FuelWise fuelling reminders and a season planner. Heart rate comes from Polar's Precision Prime optical sensor, which Polar lists as a third-generation 3.5 unit and which combines several LEDs with algorithms to cut motion interference. The sensor list also includes skin temperature, and Polar's table shows no ECG and no blood-oxygen (SpO2) measurement, so those features are not offered.

For positioning the watch uses GPS together with Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS, with assisted GPS, and it has a barometer, a magnetometer compass, an accelerometer and a gyroscope. Navigation tools include route guidance with turn alerts, track back, back to start, breadcrumbs, altitude, coordinates and daylight times. The product page does not mention onboard maps, so the guidance is route-based rather than map-based. Training data goes to the Polar Flow app and web service, and the watch can also sync with third-party services such as Strava and TrainingPeaks. Smart features include phone notifications, music controls, find my phone, a two-day weather forecast and multiple alarms; the specifications list Bluetooth LE and a proprietary USB-C charging cable but do not mention NFC payments or built-in music storage.

Sleep and recovery

Polar builds the watch around the idea of a 24/7 system that links daytime training with night-time recovery. Sleep tracking detects the duration, quality and stages of sleep (light, deep and REM), and it comes with a sleep score and the SleepWise tool. Nightly Recharge combines heart rate, heart-rate variability and breathing patterns to show how well the body has recovered, and the watch also provides a daily readiness estimate, an orthostatic test, a leg recovery test and a guided breathing exercise. Nightly skin temperature measurement is meant to highlight trends such as signs of illness or menstrual-cycle patterns. These are wellness estimates and Polar does not present them as medical diagnoses.

Battery and charging

Polar quotes up to 10 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and up to 43 hours in performance training mode with continuous GPS and optical heart-rate tracking, while the technical table shows 42 hours for that mode and 170 hours in eco training mode. The difference between 42 and 43 hours is in Polar's own material, so the safest reading is "about 42 to 43 hours". The battery is a 385 mAh lithium-polymer cell and Polar describes the charging as fast, although it does not publish a charging time. The battery can be replaced, which may help the watch last longer than models with a sealed cell.

Who it is for

The Street X is aimed at people who want serious training and recovery data without paying the price of a premium watch, and who value toughness more than elegance. It suits gym-goers, city runners and cross-trainers who want a durable device with a bright screen and a flashlight, and anyone who likes Polar's recovery-focused approach. Because it weighs only 48 g and has an uncomplicated design, it is also easy to wear all day and at night for sleep tracking.
